There were vocal devs. They went and formed Activision because they said "fuck making games and not getting credit". You see shit like this today due to real and imagined hostility over the internet, which has allowed people to be total assholes under a protective cloak of anonymity while allowing some individuals to stand on the virtual soap box and gain attention by virtue of the amount of free time they have to make videos and play victim over social media.

There are plenty of transgender video game devs even from the 80s. It's no surprise considering the job is about creating and living in fantasy worlds. The main difference is back then, it wasn't enough to ONLY be sexually aberrant you needed to actually produce games that were decent on their own merits.

If even just ten years ago you'd told me that gold medal decathlete Bruce Jenner would have a sex change and be on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine I'd have laughed.

They got into gaming, comics, etc. now because now those areas have enough cultural influence to make invading them a valuable political move. In the 80s and 90s video games solely influenced diehards and children, so they had no real social capital.
