Outside of the pokeyman and Tertis, isn't this the most underrated /vr/ console?

I have Pokemon Crystal, Wario Land 3, and Super Mario Deluxe. Are there any more GBC games worth getting?

>>3703343
You can add color to any game boy game by holding certain combinations of buttons when you turn it on. Plus the games that are compatible with the super game boy automatically get a little color.

No need to limit yourself to the gbc library. There are plenty more games worth getting.

>> No.3703383

The question is, is it actually a new console, or is it an upgrade like the DSi or New 3DS?

Internally, it's basically the same as the original Gameboy just with more RAM, CPU capable of running at twice the speed, and color. Even the cartridges are the same, and will work in an OG Gameboy (but Nintendo specifically required all GBC exclusive games to display an error message if played on an OG model).

>> No.3703391

mario golf and tennis were god tier
the question is, were the gba version even better?

>> No.3703445

>>3703383
I would say it should be like the DSi and New 3DS, but the sheer amount of exclusive games not playable on the older models good or not and the color screen being a pretty noticeable upgrade kind of put it into a tier of its own.

>> No.3704453

>>3703383
GBC exclusives show an error strictly because the GBC's hardware is expanded.
It'd be like putting a N3DS game in an O3DS, or a 32X game directly into a Genesis, hardware is literally missing.
and Nintendo allowed devs to make games that worked with the B/W Game Boy that also used the GBC's features -- they'd detect what machine they were running in and then act accordingly, loading color palettes, running the CPU faster, etc

it's in the same category as the DSi or N3DS, it just had the advantage of color being enough of a selling point that Nintendo could get people and devs to move to it, the DSi and N3DS don't have that advantage.

man, if there's one thing I wish the GBC allowed, it was use of SGB palettes
like, I can see why they didn't (there are a lot of SGB extras that wouldn't work, and the game needs to know it's running on an SGB to load the SGB colors), but it'd still have been nice

It's an upgrade, but it actually got games. Although being an upgrade and being a new console are essentially the same thing if new games are actually being offered.

>> No.3707543

Overlooked would be even less accurate than underrated

Something can sell a gorillion copies and be rated low, but you can't really claim it went unnoticed.

Answer to OP is Sega CD, by the way. Most people who would speak of it speak with disdain, but once you claw through all the FMV trash there's a good library in there.

It's as if everyone else on /vr/ knows that having grown up at the time of its release and didn't need someone who grew up watching vidya e-celebs to say so.

I don't mean on /vr/ you shitlicker, I meant overall. And no, people did not have a very high opinion of the CD at the time past the initial wow factor. It was pretty widely mocked on the playground.

Sonic CD, the other Power Rangers game, Lunar, Earthworm Jim, the superior version of Eternal Champions (but it's still Eternal Champions), Snatcher, Mega Race.

Honestly I had to look up a few just to remember and the Power Rangers game I never saw at that time was actually a QTE Dragon's Lair game (which was also on that).

I don't think it was mocked from where I'm from. But it was too expensive and you could just play Mortal Kombat and Madden on the other current gens at that time.

Quite possibly the worst library of any handheld system ever in terms of quality ratio. There are a small handful of games (as in about 4 or 5) that are any good, the rest is licensed garbage and shitty ports.

There were two GBC Harry Potter games, and holy shit they were good. The second's easily the better of the two, but these are both some of the best licensed RPGs I've ever played.

Plus the artstyle is just so goddamn comfy.

Nintendo counts GBC hardware and software sales within the original GB's sales numbers, whereas GBA are counted as their own thing. Hell, the official Japanese for the GBC is the same one as the original GB.

No it really didn't have any good games. Everything made you wish for a SNES or even a fuckin NES.

I mean a few RPGs, the Zelda games and Mario , well basically all the Nintendo games were decent. Outside that and puzzle games the Gameboy and GBC was pretty meh.

Even as a kid I just couldn't play that thing for that long, I just got bored. Only game that really got a TON of play was qix and that was a GB game.

GBC vs GB wasn't all that exciting either.

It had a wall adapter. There was also a rechargeable battery/AC adapter that I would charge up for long car trips obstacles of using batteries it even clipped on your belt. I still have mine.

It doesn't have to be the hardest game of all time, however I expect to at least have to think to play a game. Kirby games might as well play themselves.

>The Wario games were never particularly difficult either.
They were still more inventive and brilliantly designed than Kirby games.

This. Thing was silly. I have mine somewhere.

Lipo wasn't big at the time. Rechargeable AA batteries existed but they sucked. Just weren't worth using outside the home. (Play in the backyard for a bit, recharge them after, so you don't waste those mint AA)

Decent rechargeable batteries are a pretty new thing. Back in the day batteries were a hot commodity and even disposal ones weren't nearly as good as what we have now.

> Memories of car trips not playing Gameboy for as long as possible and savouring every moment because they weren't going to cut it.
