I am tempted to say the DualShock 4, if only because it works right out the gate, and the PS1, 2, and PSP are all systems that can be emulated today with relative ease.

Three systems the controller matches automatically, and then has enough buttons for whatever else you might want to play.

Of course, there's plenty of other fine choices as well. This is just the best one I can come up with.

>> No.3686412

what's nice about Dolphin is that it has separate input binds for fully clicking a trigger, and then another for just pushing it halfway

what I do on a pad that has two pairs of triggers is assign each one to a row, so for example I would press L1 in Mario Sunshine to spray while running and 2 to stop and aim the nozzle

it works pretty well, but you have to get a little weird with Z - I resorted to mapping it to clicking in the analog stick

>Z on RS/R3
Not a completely bad idea
Would take relearning a little

But seriously, there's so few games that actually uses analog trigger. like what, Sunshine and F-Zero GX?

My reasons for liking WiiU pro controller
D-Pad + Face button are great, perfect for NES/NES
Symmetrical, which is good for Playstation shit

The symmetry stinks in general since asymmetrical is better, but it's really not that big of a deal

The 3rd party USB i use makes it work as dinput and xinput, so everything fucking works

nice form

I would say whatever suits your hands best. I personally find the Sega Saturn controller to be the best for my play, so I've gotten adapters for it to all systems. There are even official USB ones too. They are great for me in general use.

However, for some emulated games, like those that require analog sticks or two joysticks, I'd try an adapter for a more specialized controller (like a N64 to USB adapter for N64, or Wii-U Pro for the dual analog sticks for Smash T.V.).

Original Saturn USB pad is perfect for everything without an analog stick. However they are difficult to come by and very expensive, so your best bet is in getting a knockoff, and then exchanging the shell with a real Saturn pads.

X360 pad is great for everything WITH an analog stick. Has enough buttons for every other controller, has rumble, iirc you can even get a microphone for it for the odd few games that support that peripheral (but I'm not aware if any emulators support that feature - Seaman would be a blast to play like that).

>>3687652
Sega released a bunch of peripherals in the early 00s, which included Saturn pads with USB, Saturn pads for the PS2, and the HSS-0136 sticks for the PS2 (and maybe even for PC, I think). It's not a knockoff, it's a real product.

>>3687489
The form factor makes it great. I read the newer ones make more noise but does not have a graphics bottleneck for modern stuff. I got the Alpha for cheap because there's a newer one out and it is primarily for emulation in my home, works out great. I have not tried Saturn emulation on it, but MAME, DOSbox, and ScummVM works just great for me, I should try Dolphin and research Playstation (PPSSPP, PCSX2, ePSXe, etc.) for enhancements like perspective corrections or translation patches in the future.

>>3687970
Once I was in an arcade with a really early revision of Smash T.V. which had a twisty joystick like that of Time Soldiers and Ikari Warriors and two buttons, one to fire the standard shot (to conserve ammo for the 2nd button) the other for the latest special weapon. I have not checked if that early revision ever got dumped to MAME.

Sometimes, when you emulate, maybe an adapter is best. So you can hook up Super Nintendo controllers when you are emulating S.N.E.S. games.

Yes, it is Madcatz, Google is correct. Do note that the buttons and stick are imitations of Sanwa (that's why I intend on replacing them with actual Sanwa ones in the pic), but they are pretty close and most wouldn't notice. The stick is also replaceable but I cannot afford one now, and I am still looking up if it would support a Seimitsu LS-32-01 stick (as I prefer that brand over Sanwa for Japanese styled sticks) when I unlazy myself.

>>3688947
I have. I believe one should get the controllers that would be best for each individual. If you feel these would be best for you then get them.

I am always looking for a Saturn pad alternative because authentic SLS/Sega Saturn pads are getting difficult for me to get and prices have gotten pretty high (the knockoff imitation Retrolink ones I just don't like, and I can feel the difference in play). So much that I spent the last hour or so cleaning this pink USB one I got recently, shipped from one of the shadiest Japanese sellers, in a pussy color, filthy as hell, and it still cost $18USD shipped, but that's the price I have to pay because I have found the Sega Saturn pads are the best for my hands. The only thing the Ascii and Madcatz ones has over the Saturn pad are equal sized XYZ buttons to ABC, but they all fall short to me in some way.

The Madcatz SF4 controllers has a large and soft D-pad, which may be better suited for people with large hands. It feels loose to me and given that I use charge characters (like Guile/Nash/Dictator) my thumb would start sliding from the down-away position. However there are some great players which prefer these controllers like a notable Zangief and Guile players. Note the SFxT controller from Madcatz is smaller.

>>3689032
