How many of you have had the misfortune of purchasing a game that you thought was legitimate/genuine, and then later found out was a reproduction or fake?

If you have had it happen, how did you discover the game you purchased was not a real copy?

Later when I had internet I've discovered that they didn't really made 16 different super mario sequels.

OP are you saying one of those SMB/DH are fake? Both labels are legit variants. The one with the bottom bar came along later.

one on the left is a later revision and also has a smaller glob top pcb. nobody would clone smb/dh

They make repos of the most prolific NES cart in existence?

>> No.3685195

>>3685160
Obviously if there's a lot of them that means the game is popular so it's a good idea to jump on that train and make some yourself to sell.

>> No.3685204

Yes, that's true.

But they are both reproductions, correct.

>> No.3685205

>>3685195
you forgot that it's also one of the cheapest NES games in existence, despite what jewsellers would like you to believe

Why would someone go through the effort of making a repro for a $5 game?

>> No.3685231

One of the SRW games I ordered turned out to be a Chinese bootleg (all in-game text was Chinese instead of Japanese, and the naming screen was all screwed up), and the battery was crap, so it wouldn't save at all. I talked to the seller about it, returned it, and got a full refund.

I don't really blame the seller, because the box, manual, and cartridge all looked identical to the legit JP release.

Because everyone thinks it would be crazy to do and won't suspect it. They'll never check to verify if it's real and it's easier to pass off on suckers.

Wasn't their point that there just isn't any money in faking a cheap game? Practice....?

It's definitely worth way less than $5. There's probably twenty times more copies of those games on the market than there are working NESes.

Nope, I'm flashcart master-race.

Only lowly collector-niggers worry about this.

Price Charting says it's currently worth about $7.50. It SHOULD be worth a lot less, but it is subjected to both retro tax and Mario tax.

How can you tell if you have a cart with a reproduction sticker?

If you can't tell it's fake, is it less valuable than the real thing?

Nah, senpai.
Just like fake diamonds are worth just as much as the real thing.

The only place the you'll find it cheaper than $5 is at a garage sale or flea market and even then it will more than likely be at least $10 because of Mario tax.

>> No.3688729

>>3688436
Eh. I often find stuff on ebay for cheaper than I do anywhere else. You just gotta be patient a bit. Only place I know cheaper is this one guy at a local flea market who always takes 5 or 10 dollars off depending on how much stuff you buy. I once got an NES and an SNES from him for 45 bucks. But besides him, most other retro vidya dealers in my vicinity are always overpriced compared to ebay.

This. If you're willing to wait, the right price will eventually come along on ebay.

I bought a bootleg a million years ago (like 94) that had Mario Bros. SMB 1, 2/LL, Japanese3 (getting hit drops you to small like SMB1), USA and some weird glitched version of SMB1 that scrolled the level incorrectly and made you have to rely on memory to not fall in holes and shit. I never did get far enough in 2/LL to see if it properly implemented the wind physics and shit. I understand many of the bootleg versions of it don't and are technically impossible to complete.

I was so pissed. I had IFTTT alerts set for some of the games I was always hunting for, hoping that eventually some uninformed mother would put up a rare game for a steal. Unfortunately one of them came up while I was asleep, and I missed out on getting Kirby's Dreamland 3 for 20 bucks.

See >>3688505. I know it's not worth $5, but that doesn't mean people wont try to up the price because it's OMG NES SO NERDY #NOSTALGIA.
