Does anyone know why the Steam version of the ultimate DOOM looks and sounds like crap and how can I fix it. I'm just curious because I'm new to pc gaming and want to know if my computer is causing it. Thanks again.
P.S. I love this board.

Steam is garbage. Why don't you just play Doom on a modern source port for free?

Check the Doom thread

Ultimate Doom on steam uses dosbox, which also isn't configured for Windows 8 or 10

You can easily download a sourceport (GZdoom or Chocolate Doom) and replace "dosbox.exe" with the executable for those.
It's as easy as downloadng and extracting in the Ultimate Doom folder, and renaming gzdoom.exe to dosbox.exe

You wasted your cash. Get a refund and consult >>3682706 to get an engine port and the iwads.

The one on Steam doesn't use the enhanced engine ports which greatly improve the functionality of Doom, especially for modern systems.

Not even the GOG version of that is worth it, and I usually root them on.

It's a DOSBox port if I remember correctly. There are far, faaaaaaaaar better alternatives and you'll need to pick one up down the road anyway. If you're that concerned about having that sort of experience, pick up Chocolate Doom or PrBoom+. Or just get ZDoom/GZDoom for best WAD compatibility.

If you're wondering about multiplayer grab either Zandronum or ZDaemon down the line.

You can download this stand alone mod for Doom for free, it doesn't require commercial Doom either. Just extract and play. Much much better than that steaming shit. Have fun.

This is Op. So I decided to use GZDOOM first. It came in a .zip file. is that the right one? Also what do I do once I have GZDOOM downloaded

Extract it in the same folder as dosbox.exe
Then rename gzdoom.exe to dosbox.exe

From there, when you launch the game on Steam, it'll use gzdoom

I looked for gzdoom.exe but I don't see that file.

Did it go in a folder called gzdoom?

>> No.3685976

Ok. so I think I fucked up. I opened the zip file, right clicked and selected extract all. Then I put those files where the game files were ( That includes dosbox) but then all of the game's files were replaced with the files from the zip file. When I opened the game, it still ran the same way it did win I got.
