Hm. I still need some experience buidling before I can help with intensity. I love those huge spirals in the middle as well as the close tracks by the station. my rule of thumb for intensity: Let the coaster go as slow as possible to make it through its course at all times.

If I started a thread about Grand Theft Auto 3, a game from 2001, how long do you think it would last? Certainly not three years like these RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 threads have been going. And it came out a year after GTA 3.

To keep this board retro, we must be fair about the rules. Either keep Generation 6 titles banned, or allow them. It can't be both. The video games general board exist for a reason.

I also saw that this ominous MysteryMan guy finally uploaded his part for the /vp/ title collab park. And wow, that's some complete bunch of shit (and he also worked off the wrong version).

With 0.0.5 still having 11 open issues and no due date, does anyone want to talk to spacek about ironing out the last few issues so this can maybe make the title sequence anyway? We were pretty much done, it's just that nobody stood up and said we're done.

The only new-ish and interesting mechanic RCTW has that the others don't are "Influencers", basically VIPs for non-sandbox gamemodes. However, much like the rest of the game, it's done terribly, and bug-ridden.

The sad thing is that I feel like that would've made the management aspect of the game more interesting, hopefully Frontier can take that idea to help flesh out their own barebone management in PC.

Well shit then I can't get snarky. Most roller coasters only have 1 lift hill so try not to add extra ones unless you really need them. Your coasters have one drop before they immediately go into another lift but you shouldn't use lifts unless you have literally no speed left to work with (it also kills your ratings so you won't be making as much money). Also, BANK YOUR TURNS. If the train is going >20 mph, bank the turns to lower intensity ratings. And the faster it's going, the wider the turn should be.

Not him but it's usually uncommon to have a loop followed directly by a 180 degree flat turn. If it needs to go the opposite direction, it's more likely that there will be an immelman, dive loop, cobra roll, or some other inversion that faces you in the direction you were coming in from. There are exceptions though like the horseshoe roll on Maverick which is a corkscrew, 180 flat turn, corkscrew.

>> No.3654574

>>3654537
this. If you need to turnaround you don't always have to use an inversion, turnarounds are called that for a reason. Just avoid a series of 180 turns in general too, even if they are raised or a mix of different turn sizes in general. Make sure to throw in some diagonal track and 90/270 turns between/in elements .

Forests look great as long as enough different types of trees are used.

In real life, coasters surrounded by trees are more fun, due to the greater sense of speed felt from passing by objects quickly. I try to apply this to RCT as well.

Is it better to have longass queue lines or keep them short? does guests complaining about being in line for ages affect park rating/make them angry?

>> No.3671473

>>3671459
It's important to find a balance.
With long lines, you're insured against shit like breakdowns and inclement weather, so no matter what you've got a steady supply of people to load onto the ride and harvest money from.
But at the same time, you're more liable to have problems with people being angry about waiting so long. In addition, people waiting in line aren't out in the rest of your park spending their damn money, they're just sitting in line.

>> No.3671478

>>3671459
Longer lines are preferred. Long lines do not affect the park rating the guests just leave if the queue is too long and they get bored. If guests start leaving you should place TVs in the queue to keep them there. The real drawback of long queues is that they lower the satisfaction with the ride which could make it less attractive to guests but I don't believe it affects the park rating.

Queues are kinda like a holding area for excess guests. They keep guests organized and out of the main footpaths where they just pool up and make people complain about crowds. Guests in queues will eventually earn you money while guests who are just wandering around aren't earning you anything.

>> No.3671480

>>3671459
The queue need to be long enough to fit at least as many peeps as the ride does. And it should not be so long that the peeps have to wait for more than ~8 minutes. If your park is crowded you'll want long queues to keep the peeps of the streets, otherwise it's (from an economic point of view) better to have shorter queues so the peeps are not locked up queuing.

>> No.3671484

>>3671473
>>3671478
>>3671480
okay, that makes sense. it seems like having lots of lines is a big way to keep guest numbers up too to meet scenario goals. i've been making them shorter but the overcrowding complaints do get annoying

>> No.3671707

>>3671478

>Guests in queues will eventually earn you money while guests who are just wandering around aren't earning you anything.

This is nonsense. The guest that is wandering around could enter another queue and still earn you money. It is better to have short queues for the simple reason that a guest can get through multiple short queues and pay for multiple rides in the same length of time they can get through one longer queue.

Of course, all of this depends on having enough rides that a guest who can't make it into a short queue will be able to find another ride that they can get into. That just means that all I'm really saying is that two rides with short queues earns more than one ride with a long queue - which should hopefully be pretty obvious.

The real reason you want to avoid long queues is that there is a limit to how many peeps RCT will spawn for you based on you park value (or something like that, I'm not sure exactly what the cap is based on but there's definitely a cap). This means that you only want your queues to be long enough to hold enough peeps to keep the ride full, plus a buffer so that if something goes bad (e.g. a breakdown, or it starts raining) there are enough peeps in the queue to keep it at full capacity.

Any more than that and the peeps in your queue are doing nothing for you other than filling up your peep cap. Those guest are more useful roaming where they could buy food/drink, get more cash at an ATM, or even leave the park and replace themselves with a guest with more cash. Pretty much anything is better than standing in a queue doing nothing. The only exception is if you have park crowding issues - peeps in queues don't complain about crowding, so long queues means less peeps crowding your regular paths.

All of this only applies to pay-per-ride parks obviously; for pay-per-entry parks you basically want guests to leave as quickly as possible, so I guess just build short queues so nobody can ride anything or something.

>> No.3671714

>>3671707
Peeps in the queues are making your peep counter stay up and they're not blocking footpaths which can affect your park rating. Having peeps wandering around isn't as useful as having them waiting a few minutes so they can ride one of your rides and earn you money. If you want to sell merchandise you can put it at the exit of the ride. People who are all fired up tend to buy things even if it's a bit pricey.

>> No.3671727

>>3671714
I mean that for as coasters though. Long queues are useful for custom thrill rides. Cheap prefab rides like spiral slide and space rings and stuff like that just keep the queue short so most people have to pass them up and go for money making rides and shops instead.

>> No.3671735

Woaw, wait, really?
How long do they stay all fired up after a good ride? Or rather, how far?

>> No.3671739

>>3671735
It's because the ride has raised their happiness somewhat. The ones that jump around after getting off are extremely happy and the most likely to buy merchandise. As long as the shop is within the general area and the area isn't overcrowded(lowers their happiness) then they should benefit somewhat.

When you're at the point where you encounter crowding, your park should already have a good enough infrastructure to satisfy your guests' other needs (food, drinks, toilets, cleanliness etc.), keeping the park rating stable at 999.

Even on maps like Whispering Cliffs that are extremely prone to crowding, this is an issue that can mostly be ignored while keeping a max rating.

You can't sit there and tell me that the idiots who made The Nutshack don't deserve to be insulted for their disgusting sense of "humor" and thinking that any human being with half a brain cell would enjoy it. Free speech and all that. Creators are free to make shitty content, and critics are free to insult the creators for being shit.

Peep ai is dumb so avoid dead ends or paths that guests will get stuck on while they're trying to walk in one direction to a ride they're interested in (or the park exit). There's a path guide somewhere that I'm sure somebody has the link saved

Not him but would you say that making personal insults against creators based on the quality of their work is more important than removing the creator from the equation and criticizing the actual work they've made? As far as I can tell that is what you're implying.

Hmmm that could possibly be it. Maybe the recipient of the disc (we googled him and he was a game reviewer) mislabeled it. Won't be able to find out until I get to my friend's house and get it to boot.

Depends on what you consider a personal insult. If he's calling the creator an idiot, and since the work came from the mind of that creator, then that is justified if his work is also completely retarded. If he's making fun of the creator's appearance or something, which has nothing to do with his work, then of course I agree that's not cool. From what I've seen, Enter hasn't done this.

My Dreamcast just plays CD-Rs with no problem.

Though then again, I only noticed that my classic Xbox was chipped six years after I bought it when exchanging the drive. Softmods have since surpassed that chip in capabilities.

Yeah GD-R is different from CD-R though, it's not possible to run those with just a boot disc or the same way the MIL-CD stuff would run.
