It more than makes up for it when you consider just how much more intricately designed and varied the whole level is.

I'd say it's pretty clear when the levels get worse: exactly after the first half of the game. Nearly every level in the second half feels much less complex or cohesive.

I'd say Lethal Lava Land, Boo's Haunt, and maybe Tall Tall Mountain are somewhere in the middle.

Personally I judge them by their slope density. The more slopes they have, lethal or otherwise, the worse they are.

One of the few reasons I prefer Sunshine over 64 is that even though slope physics are the same, the levels themselves barely have any.

Well that's a weird way to judge levels for sure. Yep, slope physics are annoying in SM64, but it's not like every level is covered in them.

Is that another "dude water temple lmao"-tier meme?

>Less complex

The very last two are the most complex. They require a true understanding and familiarity with Mario 64 dynamics by needing to jump accurately or get fucked up and need to start again.

120 stars lad. Still didn't have fun with Rainbow Ride, it's god awful.

Best levels were the bowser ones, especially the last one. Fucking god tier stuff.

The Vulture is pretty novel enemy.

This is so true.

It is kind of nintendo design, where they put their best levels at the beginning. Same thing with BK.

Zelda games are kind of the opposite though. You are always guaranteed a shit start.

>not liking tick tock

It's like a proper Clock Tower from Castlevania done in 3D.
Castlevania 64's clock tower wasn't bad but it was much less tricky and challenging than Tick Tock on SM64.
