When did you get rid of your "collection"?

I got rid of all my shit laying around and haven't been so fulfilled in awhile.
Flashcart master race

>> No.3676496

Still have it.

A lot of my collection consists of arcade PCBs and undumped or very few of a kind things, so I've no real intention of selling. Don't buy much in the way of retail console software, though, a lot is too expensive for what it is. Cheap stuff, sure, but I don't see myself paying $100 for a single retail game.

I still have a good chunk of my NES stuff.

My Genesis and N64 stuff got stolen or sold my by my idiot younger brothers.

PS1 stuff got lost in a fire.

PS2 stuff I lent out, got most of it back.

SNES I never owned because I was too poor.

I got rid of my original collection ten years ago and regretted the decision for years to come. I'll never get rid of my current collection because owning things makes happy. I only collect things that I truly care about, anyway, so it'll never get too big.

Instead of getting rid of the games I loved and bought as a kid I just bought flashcarts and have consoles modded to play everything else. I think the most games I have for a system is like 23 for PS2. The least is like 2 original games for the DC.

I've been selling all my pre-gamecube games. As I get older I'd rather just have a flash cart or emulate because retro vidya is expensive and it takes up a lot of room that I just don't have atm.

>> No.3677639

i got rid of most of it few years ago.
the only thing i hang onto is artwork books for a few games (i wish there were more desu).
i wouldnt even think about collecting nowadays. way too pricey.
i emulate, everything i want to play i do so on my psp. and frankly i've gotten an immense satisfaction from building up a fantastic selection of games on my 2 x 32gb sticks. almost 60 ps1 games. wouldve cost thousands to buy physically. cba with that. (i am poorfag)

I'm still holding on for the bubbel to burst cause i dont feel as though i hoarded up enough games and consoles back in the early 2000's when prices were low, so im holding onto all my crapola and saving up my megabux for when all the tards sell their shit to buy flashcarts and the speculators get out of the market and i'll be sitting pretty in my big dusty hoard of old games and wires floppin around everywhere and cobbled together shelving to hold my huge crt tv's, i want to get a smaller house so i can use the profits to buy more GAMING JUNK and also it will make my pile of junk look bigger when i smash it into a smaller house pretty cool huh lmao :D

my entire PS1 collection, all 4 of them (one was pretty scratched) and my 6 NES carts (nes is super retro!) still have my 3 Snes carts though. (cuz snes is so super retro)

Yeah, us retro collectors sure are dweebs, glad I got rid of my enormous collection and purchased like.. one entire flashcart.

Gave most of my DC collection to my nephews years ago. That was a mistake.

Sold my snes+64 because I was broke but if I had any idea how much they would have shot up in price I would of kept them both for at least a few years longer.

Sold my entire Saturn collection to buy bigger more expensive toys.

The only game consoles I kept were my Genesis & NES. Never plan on selling them. Will pass them down to my kid when he is old enough.

I sold all of my stuff years ago on eBay to a resller. I was not willing to wait and sell things individually piece by piece, and settled for about $2000 USD.

I honestly do not miss the games, as emulation allows me to replay them whenever I wish. But I do miss the hardware, strangely enough.

>> No.3678558

>>3678527

I sold all of my stuff a long time ago (when it was all practically worthless, which was a mistake since I had a lot of stuff that goes for hundreds of dollars now) figuring that I could play anything I wanted through emulation. I never got into gaming through emulation as much I did on consoles, and I figured that I just grew out of it. The "magic" was gone. Later, a few years ago,I started buying consoles and games again, and I enjoy playing them just as much as I used to.

I really can't explain it, but for me at least there really is something about playing on real hardware that contributes to the overall enjoyment of gaming.

You sir, are an imposter. I am the op.
My tale begins about three years ago.
Bolstered by /vr and feeling a bout of nostalgia for something I never had as a kid, I began collecting the sega Saturn. In three years I collected over 100 complete games. As I began to dive further into collecting the more expensive titles of the library, I became frustrated at outrageous prices. After some research I discovered the rhea which plays Saturn games thru an sd card. I was so inept at installing it that I begged for help from the 4chan
Me some guy in Omaha Nebraska got walked through how to install the mod
By some guy in the Netherlands.
What a world we live in he was a helluva guy
Anyway, I was able to play the better games on the Saturn for next to nothing, and soon grew tired of the space my collection was taking. I sold it to buy flashcart s for snes, Genesis and n64
I haven't looked back
The end

His point is that Atari games have generally become worthless despite coming from the generation prior to NES. I don't follow Atari prices, but that seems to be a common sentiment, that the Atari collecting fad died down (presumably with only the "true" collectors still going at it).

never understood why people do this. Unless you had complete libraries or something it seems pointless. Tuition on the low end for a citizen is over 3000$ a term. And you'll likely be in for over 8 terms, that that's just the start of paying for school if you aren't living at home to go there.

I'm in the process. I'm getting rid of about 70%-80% of my games and keeping the essentials, and the ones that have personal value beside the game itself (gifts from my parents, for example. Games with rough marks and ugly stickers that tell stories of fights over these games with my younger brother when we were little. Things adults collectors would just rub with alcohol while mumbling how a bad person I was.)

So at the end, what I sell is mostly stuff bought very cheap between 2005 and 2010, and some not so cheap later stuff.

I've been taking my time, selling individually for the right price, and have actually made a little profit. But I can see myself reaching a point where I'll just sell whatever is left for pennies just to save up space, get some quick cash, and make a statement for myself ("I don't need to OWN ALL THIS PLASTIC just to get a fun gaming experience once in a while, I can always revisit them in another format just as convenient")

Really, flashcarts are a godsend.

Yes it sucks but I figure since my family doesn't know shit about video games I might as well get the money from them now so they don't sell them for peanuts.

>> No.3682740

>>3680729
There's still a pretty good amount of atari games that are worth quite a bit. That's the funny thing about the 2600 library, the games vary from being worth less than a dollar to tens of thousands. For the vast majority of games the supply far outweighs the demand, but with as many companies jumping on the video game fad back in the early 80s ranging from small startups of a couple people to giant multi-million dollar corporations the production runs of games were super inconsistent. That makes for some ridiculously expensive games. But it's true that probably more than half of the games on the 2600 wouldn't fetch more than a dollar or two.
