All jrpgs released for snes in NA have aged well, most of those games got ports on newer systems.

Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
Breath of Fire 1+2
Lufia 1+2
Final Fantasy IV-VI
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore

Definitely Treasure's games.

Normies don't really know about them, IGN praising Ikaruga happened like 15 years ago.
And elitist tryhard posers on /vr/ hate them because god knows why. They are severely underrated.
And their games are still pretty damn good to play nowadays.

Probably their most underrated game is Bangai-O.

>> No.3671312

>>3670852

Both.

>>3671298
>better game balance

How so? It's actually more broken because they throw HP refill at you everytime you kill enemies. DC version is great but fairly easier. It's recommended to start with the DC version, and play N64 one for a better challenge.

>> No.3671349

>>3670892
they do, and so do their chips and boards. They degrade over time.

>> No.3671390

>>3671312
N64 version is more broken due to the shop based on your combos where you can upgrade your shot power and penetration, refill your HP and gain invincibility for a short duration. Also on Dreamcast you can only hold 5 explosions instead of 10 in reserve, the missiles in a super shot are based on how much stuff is near you instead of a fixed amount, and you can't charge up an explosion anymore for extra damage potential. The DC game rewards you by using your bombs intelligently instead of going around collecting oranges. Anyway N64 version is only harder if you're bad at combos or refuse to upgrade the mech (hence worse balance; note that harder != better).

>> No.3671417

>>3671390

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, I don't think having to use combos to upgrade or refill HP is more broken than randomly getting HP refills all the time, and you don't even need to upgrade your shots on DC version, you're at max from the beginning.

>note that harder != better

I didn't say one is better than the other, I find both versions worth playing, just the DC one is better for someone who never played the game, N64 version offers more challenge for someone who has already cleared the DC game.

Also you're talking about shots, but the shots are very different in both versions. Mami's shots are always weaker on N64 version, but on DC version both Riki and Mami shots deal the same amount of damage.

Yeah but in N64 you need to collect fruit to build the missile meter. You hardly can collect 10 bars all the time, in later later levels especially where things get more strategic instead of shooting away.

>The DC game rewards you by using your bombs intelligently instead of going around collecting oranges

it's the other way around, since you need to collect fruit to charge the super, that means you'll be short of it and can't use it all the time.
On DC version you have 5 supers right out the bat and you can use it anytime. Most of the time you don't really need more than 1 or 2.
On N64 version you need to save supers for bosses, not really a thought while playing DC.

Because I don't own an Xbox!

I'm still confused as to what Missile Fury is though. I saw footage of it and seemed more like a new entry in the series rather than a remake.
Granted the differences between N64 and DC were a lot but you could tell it was still the same game, MF seems like a completely different game.

The battles in most Mother Games are superfluous. They don't usually add anything to the game except whackiness. Most of the Mother games could be books.

>> No.3672070

>>3672054

Mother is just Dragon Quest with 8 direction movement instead of 4, PSI instead of spells, and a modern setting instead of medieval fantasy.
Mother 2 is the same but with enemies on the map field like Chrono Trigger instead of random encounters.

Every time someone says Mother games are shit, you're technically saying Dragon Quest and a large number of similar JRPGs are shit, which is an opinion but not a popular one.

Why should I believe Earthbound fans are the hipsters and not the special snowflake anti-EB people?

>Not a game which does anything interesting with its game play.

I thought being able to sneak your enemies from behind/insta-kill them if they're low level and the HP rolling mechanic were interesting additions to an already extremely exploited genre than ultimately took everything from Dragon Quest.

DQ is a series that never really innovated much, and that's precisely why it's loved by lots of fans. Not broken, don't fix it.

>> No.3672197

an hp rolling mechanic which has pretty much 1 enemy in the entire game that does anything with it.

>> No.3672204

>>3672197

Which enemy? Attacks from all enemies make your HP roll. It's how your HP decreases (or increases if you use replenish items/healing PSI).
Anyway, again, those were small bits of unique feats the game had, but it didn't really need to deviate much from the DQ formula because that's basically what it was meant to be.

EB has a few unique features but as the guy I quoted above said it really was Itoi saying "This DQ gae seems cool, I should try making something like this'. Personally it's my favorite game. Yeah call me ahipster but I genuinely love it. I don't think it's perfect and the fanbase is kinda annoying but I find it the most appealing game in terms of my interest.

Guessing he means the trees.

The HP odometer is definitely deeper then that though. It's not huge but it does lead to some cool situation and a sense of pressure when your character was hit with a mortal blow and your desperately trying to heal them.

The only thing that kills it for me are the loading times.
Random encounters + loading times + long attack animations = bad idea, but it's still a pretty good game otherwise. A shame the remake will be shit because modern Square is shit.
