IT'S MARATHON TIME

Discuss stories and Scenarios, ask for recommendations, suggest ideas, etc; don't be shy, we're here to help!

We have few projects going, and if you want to share your maps or join in whatever thing you may want feel free to do it. Remember, finding multiplayer games is a bitch, so you should start a game and hand out your IP; you'll be aleph one and a copy of marathon:infinity

wow...does no one play marathon?

>> No.364220

I tried downloading Aleph One and Marathon 1&2. I'd never played them before, and they were just awful. The mouse control feels terribly sloppy, the guns lack oomph and the textures and level design are abysmally bad.

I wonder if this is how people who never played Doom in its heyday feel about playing it now.

I can agree with the mouselook. I spend like an hour having to tweak that shit every time I download A1.

Tbh, I never played doom in its heyday either, but zandronum doom makes it very playable. Vanilla/chocolate doom however < marathon anyday imo

Apple didn't have Doom.

Have fun with your shitty rip-off that no-one plays.

Marathon and Doom are prime example when someone asks what it means when a game ages well or ages bad.

Marathon aged terribly, while Doom still shines to this day.

I gotta admit...to me, marathon's failings are in it's high learning curve for content creation.

Not only is it more complicated than doom to begin with, but ALL of the feature complete tools for mod making are for ancient version of mac OS only...

>rip-off

Marathon's development began before doom's.

Anyway, their apples and oranges kinda games, man. It's like saying that System Shock 2 is a ripoff of unreal tournament...

I never played Marathon, but did the main character really look that much like the Mustard Chef?

in game? No. He looked like a scrawny macfag in a skin-tight jumpsuit with a motorcycle helmet on.

Also, official art isn't too consistant about his look, so one day he looks like master chief 1.0, and the next, he looks like mad max in space with a helmet...hell, I think there are even versions of him where he's a build-as-fuck black dude...

pic related looks most like in-game...

Is there a way to increase the FOV? I have Aleph One running but it's unplayable for me with the low default FOV.

no. increased FOV is actually an in-game pickup...

now then, in-game, your steel knuckles kinda resemble chief's gauntlets, but outside of that, there isn't much.

There are some enemies that resemble halo things, but moreso in class and function than looks.

yeah, it's fucking annoying. I'll be honest, they're usually really hard to find secret pick-ups. I've only gotten them once or twice, and they're only temporary...
