I just started playing this game. I don't even really like racing games, but this shit is tiiight. And fast as fuck, too.

F-Zero thread (original welcomed too, I guess). Discuss strategies, techniques, stories, etc.

Where can I find the world records for this game? The best I can do on MC1 now is around 1:20, and that's not great.

X is kinda all right, I started with GX so X feels more like a prototype with really slippery controls and really short courses

>> No.363561

F-Zero is a series that has only gotten better with iterations in my opinion. F-Zero is horribly bad, but F-Zero X was much better, and F-Zero GX is a masterpiece. Although I never played any of the GBA ones, admittedly.

F-Zero isn't horribly bad at all, I still enjoy the hell out of it just as much, if not more, than I did when I was younger.

And while F-Zero GX was incredible (and Sega's AM divisions are the only ones I would ever trust to make a new F-Zero from this point onward), the music simply wasn't as good as X.

If they re-released F-Zero GX with X's music as bonus content, I would be totally content with dropping $50-$60 for it. Mute City and Big Blue just weren't enough.

There are plenty. I recommend the trackes made by Philippe Brodier (best trackmaker imo), most of them are hard as fuck tough.

>>363581
You can make custom tracks on the PC and patch them to a rom. The software crashes all the time... but you can do it.

Here is a track I did some years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjz90_U0GtE

I don't have the patience to make new ones anymore. Meh. Someday I'll do more...

>>363546
I love the prototype feel of F Zero X. The tracks seem to be flaoting in the middle of nowhere, that always fascinated me for some reason. And the simplicity of the design allowed the X Cup to exist. It also made custom track making very accessible for fans.

One thing that pissed me off about GX music is that you can not select course tracks besides the bonus ones

Emperors Breath is a fuckawesome track along with >>363689 that only gets used in Story Mode. Just listen to this shit

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGeJs6jYM08

It kind of sucked that you don not have the Mute City course from chapter 7 anywhere in the cups as well, it was the best Mute City course in the game. The others really sucked in comparison

>> No.364014

>>363637
I like it too, especially the character themes. But X's is just more befitting. Like the track music in GX just feels more ambient. Nothing compares to Dream Chaser blaring while you boost past everyone.

Master Mode on X is ridiculous. Can breeze through Master on GX, but wow. After beating Expert on X, I thought I was ready for Master, but holy fuck.

slides are borderline exploits and should definitely be taken out

attacks are hard to pull off and are rarely rewarding

but boosts bring a strategic element that actually strengthens precise path optimisation, so I don't see a problem there, it actually reinforces the gotta go fast no matter the cost feel of reckless racing along with attacks

good luck if you chose one of the faster cars, cause you'll be flying off of courses all the time.

Kinda reminds me of GXs Green Plant - Intersection where at the end you get plenty of boosts to accelerate to ridiculous speeds and right before the finish line there's a curved turn that with fuck you over for certain if you don't hit the breaks

For some reason, I've just been addicted to playing all these futuristic racing games where you go so fucking fast. Thus far I've been playing WipEout for a long while which has woo'd my urges, but now I seek other ones. And knowing about F-Zero (but never tried), I can safely say I want F-Zero GX.

But from what I heard from right off the bat is that the AI are a bunch of cheating dickheads. Even to the point where beating a race is dependent purely on luck in later difficulties. How true is this?

Very true. But it's still an extremely fucking awesome game, especially if you gotta go fast.

Polite sage for not retro

>> No.366092

>>366038
Entirely untrue. GX does nut rubberband in GP races. Some characters do tend to do better because they have good AI, like Black Shadow and Mrs. Arrow, but it's almost never the same two or three dickheads on your ass the whole time.

Story mode however, there is a lot of rubberbanding. But you usually face just one opponent in story mode, making it much easier to deal with. Chapter 7 however has I think 25 racers, and two of them cheat more than anyone in Mario Kart, making one of the tougher things in the game.
