Was Legends as good as I think I remember it being?

>> No.3626668

No. Legends 2 is miles better.

>> No.3626753

Legends 2 and Tron Bonne still hold up, the first game is solid for its time but kind of a chore to play now.

>> No.3626757

Why do people like these games. They look awkward with shitty cameras, why would anyone play these over any 2d megaman? It just forces the game into 3d, what is 1 good thing.

>nothing in the game tells you you have an alignment, or that there's content that opens up when you raise or lower it
>you can destroy buildings, have them rebuilt, find machine gun parts in trash cans, the entire town is filled with waifu tier middle aged robot ladies

Exploring the ruins in that game was also fucking fantastic. 10/10 almost perfect game honestly.

I don't know about 1, but 2 makes it implicit that you have an alignment (some shops will comment on it), and you change colors depending on alignment (darker for evil, lighter for good). IIRC, the best way to lose "karma" in ML2 was to kick Apo/Dah and the pig that lives with them.

There was a market that only sold you stuff if you had the most evil alignment. To get back on the good side, you just had to donate money on the church.

>> No.3627127

I replayed it and honestly, still pretty fucking great. I remember can't get into Legends 2 though, the tone felt a lot darker and even though we can travel around, the cities/places/islands aren't as fun as Kattlelox.

But fuck the grinding for upgrades though. Fuck it to hell.

Yeah, the whole Legends franchise is amazing. Legends 1 has the better setting, Kattelox island is 10/10 comfy and late-game the entire cave system becomes interconnected. The sense of exploration and progression is perfectly paced, there's plenty of bosses, and while the transition to 3D isn't as graceful as Mario 64 or OOT it's still very well done.

Legends 2 improves on the controls with full analog support, although you can choose MML1-style controls (which felt more natural to me after spending all of MML1 practicing). Legends 2 is the bigger game, but unfortunately none of the islands make you want to live there like with Kattelox. The combat is more refined, and there are some really impressive enemies. The story goes off the deep end in a few areas, reading wikia articles after finishing the game will really help with understanding exactly what was going on in the last act.

The Legends franchise has a really charming artstyle, and that's probably its strongest selling point. Everything is bright and colorful, the character models are cute, and that helps the game stand out amongst its 5th gen brethren and feel more "timeless". If you can appreciate and love that style enough to try the games, you'll find that while not perfect they are solidly fun all the way through.

So was legends a separate thing from the main games? I know it takes place very far into the future, but how connected was it to classic, X, Zero, and ZX?

>> No.3627946

>>3627923
As I understood it, Legends is actually the end of the Megaman storyline, as far as that goes. It takes place long after ZX, and practically everyone in Legends is a decoy / carbon, instead of being an actual human.

The "Purifier Units" in Legends were called Irregular (Maverick) Hunters in Japan.

>> No.3627971

>>3627946
>practically everyone in Legends is a decoy / carbon, instead of being an actual human.
Literally everyone in Legends is an android or other kind of robot, only one guy who's already dead who only appears in cutscenes is actually human.

The planet isn't even inhabitable by human beings at this point. Even the grass and trees are artificial organisms designed to terraform the environment for humans, intended to be destroyed when the soil, water and atmosphere became usable again.

Only the humans are never coming back.

A carbon is a (carbon) copy of a human (hence the original term, "decoy"). The main difference is that a carbon can have mechanical parts grafted onto them pretty easily, making them some sort of reverse-Reploid (a humanoid in robot form instead of a robot in humanoid form).

It kinda reminds me of Combat Mecha Xabungle, a mecha show from the 80s. In it, the main characters are genetically engineered humans (Civilians) that were created by the original humans (Innocent) to make Earth inhabitable again. The Innocent couldn't live on Earth's atmosphere anymore, since it became poluted by nuclear fallout (it's implicit that "blue stones" are actually nuclear fallout), so they lived in mega cities or in big domes. They couldn't get out of those protected environments without taking medication, or they would die in a matter of minutes. Just like Master dies in Megaman Legends, when he asks Trigger to take him to the planet.

They're absolutely, 100% robots. Bon Bonne is just as much a regular person as Tron and Tiesel. Roll was literally built by her parents because they're actual scientists and engineers. Megaman was found as a "baby", but there's no reason robots can't grow up. They're just robots that are so advanced as to be able to grow and stuff. They're artificial robotic organisms with mechanical parts and cells, they're made of designed nanomachines and tissues that are based on organic compounds and materials. They do not have DNA though, only Trigger has a digital record of that last DNA sequence, but no "DNA" is used in his body.

I don't remember anything about Roll being built by her parents. Juno's job was keeping Kattelox from being overpopulated, I thought that implied the carbons were capable of sexual reproduction in the same way as humans. There are other babies and kids in the games too. I can't really consider them robots if they're that close to humans

I wonder if it really was as difficult as I remember it being. The hardest part was just grasping that you had to use the Lift ability, an ability that I neglected all game, and then getting in the correct range to use it without touching an enemy and being silenced/poisoned (whatever that was that turned you green and stopped you from using the ability anymore)

No, in Legends 1 you walk in on her room, Megaman drops his jaws, Roll tells her to GET OUT NOW.
In Legends 2 when you walk in the bathroom, there's a scene where Roll tells you to get out, after which Megaman does a first pump. Legends 1 doesn't even have an accessible bathroom, I think.
