What was the first video game you ever played? Or, at least, what's the first one you remember playing. Did you "master" it? What are your thoughts on that game now?

I'm high and thinking of stupid shit so I just realized that there are people whose first video game they ever played could have been something like Superman 64. It was the only game they had, and they played it over and over for months until getting another game, and even then they maybe still played it occasionally for the next few years. Is your nostalgia built upon terrible games?

My earliest memory would be Joust, Kangaroo for the Intellivision, or Space Taxi on the Commodore 64. I still have a lot of nostalgia for Joust, though I never played it much when I was older, and never got very good at it. I'd never really thought much about Kangaroo, though, until thinking about this. It was fun, I guess?

I think Space Taxi was one of the coolest games ever though, with some fun level designs. In that way, it has a lot in common with another favorite from later in my childhood, Lemmings.

Still my favorite game on the NES, and one tough sumbitch to beat. Second game I ever beat, too, after SMB1.

Smurf: rescue in gargamel's castle (coleco)

Short platformer with just 1 level that keeps looping with some increased difficulty each time.

SMB+Duckhunt, like most people my age I´m guessing. I remember seeing atari games before that, but those were just fuking lines/dots throwing lines/dots at lines/dots and being terrible at it, I had no interest in those, rather watch cartoons.

Repton 3, on our BBC Micro, when I was just 3 years old. My dad worked as a teacher at the time and got put in charge of their nascent computer department, so he got to bring one home so he could test out the programs. Naturally, we just played games instead.
