you can with POPStarter or the official POPS-00001. Haven't done it myself, but I may have read that you need to dedicate the first couple hundred gigs to PS1 games otherwise they will not be detectable so you're best bet is to pick up a 128GB HDD just to be safe which I've been planning to do.

Nice, I just ordered one that says it has the same firmware. Is the reason you can't update it because it detects it and locks you out or something?

>> No.3606825

>>3606819
That's exactly why, if you try, it will brick and you can't even downgrade it. In my first post I meant to say '*at the time) MOST recent firmware'. Now they might ship with the 2nd to most recent. Although a lot say they ship with V9, the compatibility is largely the same. A few MMC5 games have patches that will make it work, and even the expansion audio is pretty decent when supported. FDS Audio is really bad, but hey, it plays FDS games.

Sortof yeah. Short answer: Yes. Long answer, it needs to be modded in some way, but you can get this thing called an ENIO exp board (pic related) that you put in the expansion slot and it gives you expansion audio. Essentially you stick it in the bottom of the NES into the expansion slot and it has a resistor on the PCB that connects pins 3 and 9 on the expansion slot (which you could also solder if you have the skills to do so and avoid the ENIO entirely), but the main thing is that it doesn't require any hard mod whatsoever. You simply insert it on the bottom of the console like a cartridge and boom. Expansion audio. In fact... give me a minute. I'm just gonna make a quick video.
