Goldeneye would be terrible to introduce someone to the system, the game aged like milk. It was great and revolutionary at the time yes, and if you played it then or have an interest in vidya history it's still interesting, but a new player would get bored or frustrated.

The definitive kart racer for me in the same way Banjo is to mario. Game controls better, has more levels, more graphically impressive, etc. Worth a try if you're sick of playing Mario Kart 64's 12 stages.

An import title available on Wii/Wii U VC. A badass game with incredible graphics for N64. Fast paced action oriented gameplay keeps you on your feet and a pretty cool story keeps your fighting.

Fantastic spin off based off the 1993 classic. The gameplay was a little dated even when it was new, but that doesn't stop it from being a worthy placeholder in the original Doom lineup.

A bit of a hidden gem, this is of course a sequel to the original arcade game. Pretty fun and challenging to beat, especially if you enjoy games like this.

Pioneered modern 3d controls and is a staple game on the system. Everything that can be said about this game already has

Pokemon stadium 2
Showcased just what the n64 was capable of graphically with visuals that approached gen 6 levels of quality. Also home of some great minigames and play your pokemon games on the big screen

Mario party 2
Showed just how much fun 4 player games could be with unique and memorable maps as well as some of the best mini games in the series

Super smash brothers
A great fun fighting game with good control and some fun levels. Also who doesn't enjoy watching nintendo characters beat the shit out of each other?

Ocarina of time
Although i much prefer MM, OoT is much more approachable to a newcomer and showed how grand of an adventure the n64 hardware was capable of presenting with good controls, a great targeting system and although it doesn't really have the 10/10 plot everyone says it has it's still an interesting plot nonetheless

Mario kart 64
Fun racing gameplay without the floaty controls i find a lot of 3d racing games at the time suffered from. great tracks, and 4 player split screen make it worth coming back to for fun with friends

Banjo kazooie
A Fun collectathon with grand locales, great controls, funny dialogue and a massive world

1. Turok or Turok 2, both are great imo and have been a personal favorite of mine for ages.

2.Kirby 64 because it's fucking Kirby and Kirby is fun.

3.Doom 64 is a great port and very different from the PC original.

4.Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is one of my favorite platformers on the console and...

5.Goemon's Great Adventure is on a 2D plane but still fun as fuck.

6.Starfox 64 is the only good Starfox in existence and another personal favorite of mine.

7.Yoshi's Story is simple as all hell but the visuals, music and atmosphere are top notch in my book.

8.Rayman 2 is pretty fun, pretty challenging, done better on other systems though.

9.Getforce Gemini, that's a no-brainer, granted, the controls are fucking horrendous.

10.Mischief Makers, shake, shake motherfucker.

11.Both Rampage games on the system are simple and fun as fuck.

12.Fighting Force 64 is a great beat-em-up.

13. Gex 64 is fun, but again, it was handled better on Playstation.
