Jfc how did we ever play this piece of shit? Most games on this system run at like 15fps.

Graphics are fine for early 3D but that frame rate is fucking unforgiveable

I don't hang out on this board regularly and definitely don't post in n64 threads. I just got an everdrive in the mail yesterday and have been playing for a few hours after having gone forever without having booted up an n64.

The powerpoint framerate is pretty fuckin hard to miss, it blows my mind how I used to think these games were playable. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I was feeling nostalgic. Wanting to play the Rare classics and the first party games that haven't been remade on modern hardware, plus a handful of other games I liked as a kid.

Not all N64 games are that bad, sure theyre low but at least most games are consistent. Then again it really depends which games you play and your tolerance for low/inconsistent frame rates. GoldenEye and Perfect Dark can chug pretty bad, but I still play them constantly as they're still really fun, but I guess I'm more tolerant to low framerate as I am to old game graphics. However, my tolerance for a game can end if the controls are bad or the game has confusing systems and mechanics.

Anti-N64 posters are always the cutest. They try to act all high and mighty about how they think the N64 sucks because "it only has nintendo games" or "only has collecthatons" but when people come up with other good games that are on the system and don't match the criteria they say, they go apeshit.

Few consoles cause as much butthurt, and I don't quite get why, but it's fun nonetheless.

>Few consoles cause as much butthurt, and I don't quite get why

It's because even though PS1 won the console war, N64 had a disproportionately large number of top games from that generation. It rustles them. That's why they go "collectathon!! xD".

Literally Fox and the Grapes.

>N64 had a disproportionately large number of top games from that generation.

Maybe in North America, the only place where the N64 had some relevance.
In the rest of the world the "top games" from that generation were PS and PC games, even in Japan the N64 was largely ignored, to this day the Saturn left a stronger mark than the N64.

Not saying the N64 didn't have its share of good games like Hybrid Heaven, there are also a few really neat niche games like the only 3D Dezaemon title, but it was terribly lacking in literally everything and no silly argument is going to change that, especially a "quality over quantity argument" when the quantity of most genres is less than five games, only one of which turns out to be actually a good game.
And no, all those games like S&P or the Zelda games aren't really the games people make them out to be, just like Metal Gear Solid and FFVII, they aren't special snowflakes.

Super Mario 64 has the best platforming mechanics of all time.

The stages are designed to work organically with your moveset so that your freedom scales directly with your skill at the game.

You can complete objectives in millions of different ways, and the skill ceiling is pretty much endless, so the replay value never stops.

>> No.3600098

Part of it, I would argue, is that older titles tended to be looser in all aspects. There's also no more HOLY FUCK 3D GAMES element to it anymore. We expect well executed 3D from modern titles and it's more glaring when it isn't delivered as a result.

There was a lot of experimentation of 3D gameplay done on N64. PS1 developers seemed content for the most part to take older generation stuff and replace sprites with polygons.

No, I'm saying you'd have to be a Nintendo fanboy to consider the N64 to be a good system, when it had the worst library of the Big 3 in that gen. You bringing up random weebshit that nobody cared about back then doesn't change the fact that N64 was a failure.
