I didn't realise DX was going to become more of a thing, with that teaser of some kind of Sun/Moon demo. While I like Hamaguchi, I don't like how he's just a Nintendo ad tool.

I wish I can find some bootleg DVDs of Game Center CX with English subtitles while I am in vacation in Shanghai.

They always have these bootleg DVDs with Engrish subtitles for untranslated stuff.

I once bought a DVD of Studio Ghibli movies with some documentaries included as extras and said documentaries are actually interesting as they never had an official translation anywhere.

Also, the movies themselves just rip the subtitles from the official DVDs.

So is Arino's "gameplay" scripted or not? On one hand, He relies too much "miracle plays" and they oftentimes show that they have cue cards and scripted lines for him to say. On the other, you just can't make shit up on live broadcasts and shit, like 6 hours just playing stage 98 on quest of ki/24 hour lemmings/budokan/bomb jack and the other times they really show him dying multiple times on one boss.

Thinking out loud here, but if some sort of information sharing situation could be agreed upon regarding episodes being worked on, via private communication, SA and VRiSFAGS could both benefit greatly.

There would be no overlap, no wasted effort, and episodes could be "claimed" as exclusive fodder for each group.

This scenario would benefit SA and all consumers of subbed GCCX content. Under such an arrangement, made and executed in good faith, the original .TS broadcast files would be made available to SA along with the existing raws that they sub upon. In addition, AviSynth scripts that describe the episodes as they were encoded would be shared.

This would allow SA to use the raw as is in order to create a sub file. Then, rather than hardsubbing the sub file onto the .MKV and making a "copy of a copy" at CRF 21.5, they could use the original AviSynth file and .TS that were used to make the raw to hardsub the completed sub file into an "encoded once" hardsub. Encoding settings can be shared as well, as long as nothing is degraded. Suggestions for improvements will be heard but are unlikely to best the existing methods. CRF 19, 60fps, same quality as VRiSFAGS raws, with SA hardsubs on top.

These things I can give them. I'm not paying 10 bucks to give up my secrets. If we can enter a mutually respectful and beneficial dialogue, it is possible they can be given out for free—in the interest of all fans.

Softsubs would be preferable, and will be the standard for us. It's been proven that OCR can obtain any timed dialogue by means of skills. Hardsubs made by SA this way, however, with assistance from VRiSFAGS, will be the same quality as the raws. Also will be able to teach 60fps frame-perfect timing methods (RS is a frame off a lot of the time, indicating an easily correctable misunderstanding of timestamps).
