Any 3x3's or recommendations.jpeg's on old adventure RPGs? Preferably in a fantasy setting, (i.e. Kings Quest, Final Fantasy) but anything would be rad.

Have you played Loom? It's a nice Sierra style game but the puzzles are not as infuriating as the Quest series can be. Actually, a lot of the Lucasarts adventures are good, particularly the Indiana Jones ones.

Oh, I just noticed you said RPG. Play Loom anyways.

The SSI Gold Box games are cool and there's a metric shitton of them. Try Curse Of The Azure Bonds. Just go look them up. They're like classic Ultima but better.

The Ultima Adventure games are pretty fuckin neato too, precisely because they weren't in your typical fantasy universe.

The Magic Candle.
Quest for Glory.
Darklands.
Betrayal at Krondor.

I'd differentiate between Adventure Games (King's Quest) and the RPGs though.

Pretty good writing on that one, if I recall. Much better than your typical kill the evil wizard, return the orb stuff.

It's so good. It's really quite beautiful. I don't want to hype it too much, but I remember it being pretty fuckin magical. It's on the short side, though. Warning: save before you cast OPEN on the sky.

Maybe I'll play it this weekend. I think there's a SCUMM emulator for Xbawks.

Hmm, I like them both. I see your point, but I really like the characters in 4 rather than build-your-own. Agree to disagree.

There's a few of their Llygamyn remakes. (that tend to be a lot easier but still not easy)
Not sure about the rest, a few of the very anim-u ones seem to have got official releases.
But with the sheer number there has to be at least one good original Japanese one.

From what i've heard the Japanese fanbase wasn't as keen on later releases, mostly because they got shit console releases.

Someone posted Albion already, but if you want a really awesome adventure in a huge world play Ambermoon.

It's the same 3D real-time dungeons, TB combat and top-down mix minus the sci-fi elements but with a lot more freedom and exploration and not-so-broken combat.
You get to ride horses, travel the seas and fly on brooms (and much more) and crawling through dungeons solving puzzles and riddles, all that good stuff.

It's an amazing game, even better than Albion.
