Whats the best android based console for emulation? I tried the OUYA when that was out but...we know how that went. Is it really the nvidia shield?

>> No.3563590

Why does it have to be Android?

pfffthahahaha

I think you are probably trying to say "other than pc"

Just build or buy a small PC

I have a 8 year old laptop that can do what my sheild tablet can do. Can even hook up to a crt if i buy an adaptor for the lappy, it can do pc games and hook up any controller with ease too.

Yes, do this. I built an Intel NUC media PC for $300, and probably could have got it down to $140 or so if I went cheaper with the processor or got a cheaper brand. Plus, they're charming.

I'm so beyond sick of you advertising your reddit shit here

This is a retro games board, not a hipster product board.

Or just buy cables to connect your PC to your TV, you can get 50' HDMI and USB cables for under $20 each.

It's true I got a 25 for like $9. You can probably even buy them at Walmart around that price point now.

The gpd xd is a great alternative to the shield. Cheaper too

Nvidia Shield owner, they are worth it and you get an amazing controller but you also have the option of using anything else you want.

HDMI has been really cheap for a long time now, including the ones that meet the spec for 4k video. Get with the times.

I gonna get flac for this but I do have a mad catz mojo and it works decent. I got this from a friend for free to mod his wii. It works decently well on everything up to n64 and plays ps1 really well too. If I didn't have this I would either get an hdmi from my pc running or mini pc build

You would be better to ask somewhere else, maybe the emulation on android reddit.

/vr/ is very opposed to these sort of machines and will always tell you to just build a computer.

I don't know much about these but considering how fast tech moves for Android devices I would imagine there's a better chinese brand right now but I really have no idea.

For alternatives you could do the small PC as was already mentioned, that steam streaming box thing, a long HDMI cable from your computer, a wii if you don't want to play playstation games, or a pi 3.

Android is fine, 4chan is just full of assholes.

/vr/ tends to say odroid, but that is missing some stuff, like CRT compatibility.

I bought a $50 Q-Box tv box hoping to use the usb as gamepad imput, or via bluetooth.

My usb gamepad didn't work. So I bought a bluetooth android controller. It didn't work either.

Now I'm stuck with it watching chinease television with an app it has.

Have you installed Gentoo on it?

>> No.3566693

>>3566685
No, I installed another buunch of apps for that and I can't make it work.

I actually kinda posted here because I knew I'd get some advice, so I'll try out Gentoo, thanks.

I installed an snes emulator and ran Final Fantasy III and Megaman X, and it seems fine, I'm really looking forward to try it with a gamepad.

So Gentoo is that linux os, it seems complicated, I don't know.

I won't give you flack I own a Game Stick. Its design is hipster central these fucking bluetooth controllers lol. It's adequately powerful for retro gaming though and it was dirt cheap since sometime someone convinced someone else with money that it would be popular with casuals and it wasn't. Its only unforgivable flaw is its wifi is so bad that after you've used it for a few weeks the antenna literally burns up never to work again.

It's /g/'s meme linux distribution.

Why would you get this when you could build a PC for cheaper with literally the same shit or better. What does this have vs. your computer?

The Nvidia Shield is what the OUYA should've been in the first place. You can't go wrong with it.

If you're a cheapskate though there's always those TV boxes from AliExpress.

>> No.3568205

I hear good things about the rpi 3 with one of the emulation distros, theres a couple of them. Its small and cheap.

Ouya is great for emulation.what's the issue? It not being successful surely couldn't be the problem
