Alright guys, any tips for an early GT virgin like me? Just got this game today and can't quite get used to the driving physics. I'm normally used to GT4, and as far as I'm aware they tweaked up the physics in that one a bit.

Also, GT general thread, I guess.

>> No.3560914

Keep practicing on tracks and hopefully get a feel for the game. One of my favourites is the one with the mini forest in the middle. If you love the game you won't find dedicating time to understand the physics. Also I'm not sure if 1 and 2 have tutorials as the earliest one I've played was 3. If not, remember that every car functions differently when reacting to breaks, turning etc. Also the most basic advice I can give you, if say you were making a right turn remember to be on the left side of the track and when turning you want to be turning turning towards the right, not already on the right. When you're confident your car won't under or overturn, you can accelerate.

I do better with the d-pad in early gt it is pressure sensitive too. start in a low pwer car and work your way up, dont start the main game until you can international a license.

take that back only ps2 was. mixing up contrillers.

>> No.3560951

The first GT specifically and to a lesser extent the second have a looser physics engine than the sequels and have random moments where the car will seem to do it's own thing while you brake or accelerate. It's a driving game that plays better on instinct and feel than braking and clipping points and controlled acceleration, more akin to Forza than later more 'sim' type GT's. At least try to work your way to the A license as the IA license can be really tricky and only gates off events you won't be competitive in until much later into the game anyway. Doing the FF, FR, MR and 4WD cups will ensure you get a feel for the cars and how they differently handle and what you can get away with in each style. Tyre and suspension upgrades for your vehicles will ensure you get a bit more leeway in the handling stakes and make less mistakes in corners.

Look, I fucking loved the original GT when it came out and played the everloving hell out of it - but all those cars and tracks and they only have six freaking songs on the USA soundtrack?

OP just take your time with it and have fun

Early GT's not worth it other than for a quick laff.

Digital throttle control is unacceptable, fucks up the exits to the turns. Digital brake also fucks with you, can't trail brake properly. There's analog support for a NegCon/PS1 Wheel but I don't have one.

It was pretty nice when it was fresh but I just find it frustrating now. I like Ridge Racer a lot better, it just embraces silly driving you're forced to do with digital steering/acceleration.

So use a dual shock for analog control of all those things. Idiot.

for once OP is not a faggot
GT1 is subjectively better than GT2. its more condensed, has neat art style and that fucking OST is unsurpassed.

Basically just slug it out in the licence tests, they are very well paced and set you up gradually. If you are not completely shit use manual shifting because it helps a lot.

Get a good starter car, hondas have nice selection. Grind the beginner cup couple of times for some easy money. Don't skip qualifications, they also net you a good chunk compared to GT4.

Dual shock has such large deadzones on GT1 and 2 its unusable.

I recently started playing GT1 again OP. As a kid I was always crashing and couldn't really handle anything besides kart racing games. As of late though I've been obsessed, I can't offer much advice besides working on your times and getting in a few practice runs before the qualify and the final.

GT1 sim mode has some of the coolest menus I've ever seen, music and visuals. Love that each dealership has a specific theme

Steering on GT2 feels very digital, even with an analog stick. It's either 0% or 100% steering. Is it my controller or the game that's doing it?

IIRC, in RR and RR Revolution, the rival car (usually that Yellow bastard) was the only other car that actually raced the entire track. All of the other competitors were just moving roadblocks which spawned just ahead/behind you, based on your lap times and how ahead/behind you were from the rival, then disappeared once they were out of sight.

The Early GT games don't play like Forza at all. In fact, I always thought Forza relied much more on precision braking and acceleration than GT ever did, and that includes GT5 and 6.

I absolutely loved the look of the RX7, but I could never handle it correctly as a kid. I tended to oversteer so FR cars like that and the Dodge Viper would always spin out on me as I tried to accelerate through a sharp turn.

For that reason my go-to car was the Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo. IIRC the max HP on that car after all of the upgrades was 930. One time I did the max speed race on the test track and after drafting behind two cars back to back I got up to 264 MPH.

>> No.3567298

>>3566904

Yep. It could get up to about 220 MPH or so on its own but the double draft certainly helped.

The car had some very stiff handling compared to the RX7 and the NSX, but thankfully that meant it was almost impossible to spin out. Plus having that breakaway speed helped win a race or two at the very end.

Do people usually just play simulator mode on this? Anyone ever do arcade mode? I picked this up the other year for like 1 or 2 bucks at a thrift store.
