Eternal Darkness, too bad it's not retro.
I've been playing lots of classic survival horror over the last few month, too bad Silent Hill 2 and Resi Remake aren't retro either.

Eternal Darkness is just so fucking good.
It's amazing and ironic how one of the best horror games of it's generation, if not the whole genre, was a Nintendo exclusive.

I acknolage that there are some good newer games, it is simply hat I don't like the play style of most of them, I have nothing against the games themselves and the people that enjoy them unless they are some ridiculous twitch style "e-sports" douchebag.

Yeah, I haven't really gotten to the point where I can go through all the stages with no upgrades or not using sub-weapons.

Really, I can't say I'm liking the Sigma levels at the end. The first one has jumping on those moving platforms with flying enemies coming at you outta nowhere. Just the platforming is hard enough since dash jumpin on such a small platform is tricky.

That spider boss is no fun at all.

After that, most of the levels are fine, but there are these random death corridors that just have a shitload of enemies. My strategy for those is use the chameleon shot alt-fire and just dash through them.

But then Sigma just fucks my shit up, even with the body armor upgrade.

Kinda weird that most of the game doesn't throw anything too bad at you, then the Sigma levels just push your shit in.

I think MMX is child's play, but that's because it literally was for me. That and Mega Man 7 were what I played the most as a kid, so every pixel and every detail of the games is just permanently engraved in my brain. It's honestly impossible for me to say if X1 is actually hard or not objectively speaking, but what I can say is that at the very least it's manageable. Pro tip for Sigma stage 1: when going up the air platforms, charge up rolling shield, as it blocks those assholes that try and knock you down. Likewise you can charge chameleon sting to go up the tower right after the vile fight.

Every person that thinks he's a gamer needs to play, for the next two years at least, ONLY games released before 1995. All games. Good, bad, ugly, every system, everything. Force yourself into it and see what gaming is actually supposed to be like.

>Legacy of the Wizard

I've finished CV1 and Batman so with these out of the way most of my 'goal' NES games will be done, and I can move on. Playing Dracula's Curse now.

Playing Snatcher on the Sega CD, for the first time. I dig Blade Runner and Bubblegum Crisis/AD Police, so Snatcher feels pretty comfy. Some great tunes, too.

Also slowly playing Miracle Warriors/Haja no Fuuin on the SMS. It's brutal, and the interface is kind of clunky, but it's great if you like old CRPGs.

Slowly picking away at Blue Breaker and Lunatic Dawn on the PC-FX, but with my low level skill in moon runes, it's slow going. Blue Breaker has lots of voices, but Lunatic Dawn is mostly weird kanji and a whole lot of katakana (mangled English terms for medieval equipment).

Recently finished the SNES Shadowrun, which has great atmosphere and a great story, but also has a clunky interface.

The trick with this game is creating the right character. It makes you think you can just make any silly character and it will work, but there's really only one ideal combination. At least for me. Keep an eye on the stats, make a character that is fast and as light as possible without reducing health too much. Choose a configuration that can fly and has fast projectiles.

Majora's Mask heart collecting is the fucking worst nightmare in existence. Largely because most of them have a very specific time code you have to follow or else you have to start the cycle over.

I ran a relaxed route that optimized the fewest cycles I could go through while progressing through the game to collect heart pieces, and I'm warning you its like 5-10 cycles. It's a fucking pain.

Another point is that unlike Ocarina where you get quite a lot of clues as to where to find the heart pieces, MM is almost impossible to go 100% without a guide or expert knowledge of the game. Good luck.

Yeah, it is pretty different from a Phantasy Star game. I find it to be a bit more like Ultima 1 or 2. The story is pretty shit, but exploring the world has me hooked.

Blue Breaker also has an enchanting world, with a lot of randomly triggered events that make it feel like it is alive. I also enjoy protecting/trying to impress the girlies. Except for the dating sim stuff, the mechanics are pretty bland. But man, I love that setting.
