What games had spread guns? Other than Contra the only other games I can think of at the moment are Gradius and Alien Solider though I'm sure there are many more.

i guess OP meant weapons that cover the whole screen so he can feel like a good player.
personally i always go for most damage, not area, it makes the game easier in the long run, unless it's a game where screen is always full of little weak enemies.
