Whant to start pic related, but I cant decide the best version of this, I do have a PC and a RGB modded N64 with expanssion pack inserted hooked to a Sony BVM monitor . What do? Which version is the superior one? Also Turok 2 Thread I guess

I always liked Turok 2 but it hits it's tedious parts a bit quickly. I think turok 1 was a little more approachable. Good luck OP

OH shit I remember playing that all the time, and being the only kid with that super kickass game and all of my friends being jelous to the tenth degree. I guess I shouldn't have rubbed it in the face all the time. It was an inside joke that I got to choose what to do sometimes because I owned Turok 2.

Then with the gameshark there was a way to play the game in co-op sort of way, it crashed at some part, but besides that, you could start a multi-player game then transfer it to single player.

This included monkey mode.

It's the same resolution, the picture is just extremely more crisp. Composite cables give a blurry image and the n64 has bilinear filtering which makes everything more blurry. Having RCA (the gold standard of analog signals) with a Sony BVM (the gold standard of crt displays) gives the best possible picture display possible. Some people like staying with crt displays for the authenticity. Take a peek inside the crt these and you'll see the madness

Do the games hold up to modern scrutiny?

The only experience I have with Turok is with the first game. I remember playing it on a friends N64 and I remember being able to get past the first level no problem, but I could never find all of the runes in level 2 or 3. I then cheated to the end of the game and fought the alien boss with every weapon, which was pretty cool. And that's about all the memories I ever had of 1. I never even touched 2.

I ask again, do the games hold up to modern scrutiny? There's an HD remake of 1 on Steam but it's $20, so...........

I'm tired of this retards that keeping using tolls to measure framerates and get paranoia and spend hours tweaking drivers and in game setting in computers to get the desirable playable frame rate they want. Fuck That!

Also the PC por of Turok 2 received average and mixed scores.

N64 Cons: sluggish controls are unresponsive at times, framerate can drag in the heat of battle

I'm a huge Turok fan but I've entertained the idea of selling T2 64 as it is absolute trash.

I played the shit out of T1 and T2 blew me away (I'm still impressed by the Joshua model in cutscenes, looks better than next gen) but years later going back T2 was a joke. Hi-res mode shouldn't even be entertained and lo-res mode still suffers, Oblivion gates become powerpoint presentations.
The gouraud shading cheat will give you maybe 5fps extra at the cost of the game looking shit, turning off the music probably helps too but c'mon...Port of Adia..

I got the PC version for 2 quid and never looked back. Hopefully the guys behind the T1 remake (Steam) deliver the goods with T2 too.

For the record, I play N64 erry day and plenty of games get choppy; GoldenEye's explosives, Body Harvest during large battles, even Tetrisphere suffers- but Turok 2 is a different beast altogether. The PC version makes the N64 ver obsolete. The best thing I can say about it is the black cartridge and matte/sheen scale details on the box are slick as fuck.

Aside from the fact that the PC gaming marketplace was a fraction of the N64's installed base, PC Turok 2 didn't sell very well compared to the N64 version because it came out months later than the N64 version, and got very little promotion and distribution. It didn't help that Half-Life had just come out, and the Quake 3 Arena demo was a month or two away.

Framerates have always mattered, no matter what game-playing device you had. I can sit down and play something like Mario 64 right fuckin' now because it held a steady 30 most of the time. Zelda....kind of rough with a steady 20 but I can manage. Goldeneye? Perfect Dark? Turok 2? Forget about it.
