Were there any third party controllers that you found interesting or even felt that it was better than the official controller? Currently experiencing OCD and suddenly want to collect third party controllers for PlayStation that seem to be on par or better such as pic related.

There's some third party controllers that can emulate NeGcon, its a nice feature since its the only way to get analogue control in some games. Much cheaper than actually buying the thing since its more expensive.

that's actually useful info, thanks. haven't been concerned with analog in those games though since I tend to use d-pad anyway.

I used Playstation to USB adapters for a long time so I accumulated a lot of playstation format controllers and I can tell you most are shitty ESPECIALLY gamepads since they sold as cheap player 2 alternatives to buying a real controller. Even novelty controllers like the madcatz retrocon that you just want to love actually suck. The ASCII Grip does stand out as a good controller though if you want to play games 1 handed. Good for RPGs.

I like the InterAct Barracuda pads for their dual analog functionality and nice sticks.

The original Barracuda (the big one) has the shoulder buttons on the back which is an unusual feature and works quite nicely.

I've actually seen that Ascii 360 controller for PC [not the PS1 version] at a flea market once but the wire looked like it was chewed off. Feels pretty weird in hand and might actually work amazingly for games like Doom and maybe Quake.

>>3537742
I'm actually going to consider picking one of these up although I don't really play RPGs and this might be a nice incentive to start.

been wanting to buy an arcade stick for my PlayStation and might just pick up a Mayflash since they're cheap. how is that stick though?

>how is that stick though?

It has steel top and bottom plates, very solid and weighty. Omron microswitches on the stick and the buttons are perfectly usable. I only paid £15 / $20 for it so on the whole I'm very happy. I'd certainly choose it over a cheapo Mayflash.

I was a lifelong Nintendo guy and only got a Genesis within the past couple years. I initially discovered I LAOTHED the 3-button controller that came with the system - the controller itself was too bulbous, the d-pad was too big and inflexible, and worst of all it only had a 3-foot cord. I asked /vr/ for a suggestion to suit my Nintendo-trained tastes and I was pointed towards this baby, and indeed it is way more my cup of tea. The turbo features are a nice bonus too.

I bought it about 6 months ago, yes. Guess the market is moving upward faster than I thought...

On a serious note I did get a pretty good deal but have seen a few go for similar prices since then. Just have to keep an eye out and move quickly when they appear I guess.

A while back I got a clone console, just for really shitty games I wouldn't let my normal systems touch (basically games that I am testing which are not my own). It came with two Genesis (DB9) controllers that feels a lot like SNES controllers. It is 85% like the real thing, but I can still tell with the start and select (mode) buttons not rounded, and the Y (Genesis A) and X (Genesis Y) buttons need to be a bit smoother being my only hints for a blind test. The old large 3-button Genesis pads had different revisions, the early ones had that inflexible D-pad, but later ones were a lot better; I think one can tell with the method/color of the button labeling. However, the authentic Genesis 6-button controllers are 2nd only to the Sega Saturn pads for me. The Hyperkin GN6 controllers are 95% close to the actual Genesis 6-button controllers (I can somehow feel the cheaper rubber/silicone conductive pads inside, cheaper with less material inside, and non-textured D-pad plastic).

Definitely. I own a Mayflash and after using it for an hour I found myself shopping for parts because everything was so loose and clicky. They're fine if you don't mind putting in a little work, but out of the box, they're shit.

>> No.3539068

>>3539037
I've since picked up a genuine 6-button controller, which I do admit is a lot better. So between that and my asc-ii pad, that 3-button controller has been put into storage where it shall most likely never leave.

To be real honest, your best bet for arcade sticks on PlayStation 1 is to pick up an X-Arcade. Bought one and the stock parts are really nice out of the box but you will want to swap them out after a few months because they lose their bounce and begin to feel flat. Definitely go for Industrias Lorenzo parts specially since you get to choose from concave or convex buttons, installing ball sticks has been reportedly more work than it's worth so keep that in mind if you're not a fan of bat sticks. The only real downside to the X-Arcade line of sticks are the fucking adapters you gotta deal with, they feel really cheap and the ports that look like S-Video ports are really loose but somehow manage to stay in the fucking thing.

The PS/PS2 to GC adapter is a generic one, was about $10USD from a local game store back in the day. I do not sense may lag, but I've only ever used it for the Gameboy Player.

The PS/PS2 to PS3/PC adapter is the Pelican adapter, which was the first adapter for PS3 back in the day found to have no lag. It was more costly at $20USD back in the day probably due to demand early on in the PS3's life.

I have tried transitioning to stick. I have both, US HAPP styled for my SNES, Japanese Seimitsu and Sanwa for all sorts of systems. Yet I always go back to the d-pad.

I'm using a Mayflash for GC and a generic chinese one for PC/PS3. the Mayflash has no input delay and supports all standard PlayStation controller functions except pressure sensitive buttons of course. The chinese one has apparent input delay and have been considering buying that expensive Japanese adapter that supposedly has no lag but can't find information on if I can use a multi-tap with it so I don't have to buy two of them with the bonus of being able to use four.

If it makes you feel better, I'm still kicking myself over passing up on getting the Darkstalkers purple one when they were out thinking "I have too many already, I don't need more" when the truth is, I could use more in case I ever break one.

>>3539483
All the blue parts are Sanwa, the red and yellow buttons were stock Hori (nowhere near as good as Sanwa buttons) which came with the stick. The stick itself by default is Sanwa, so all I did was change the ball top color to match. However for Japanese styled sticks, I prefer Seimitsu over Sanwa (vice versa for buttons). The pic here is stock Madcatz all over, and I am thinking of changing the stick to Seimitsu, the buttons and balltop are Sanwa, but I am still deciding if I should just go with 4 clear buttons to match the original color layout instead of going all transparent blue.

Pic related. worth every dollar. no third party Dreamcast controller will beat a good old PlayStation SCPH-1080 or SCPH-1200. Some might argue that games were designed around the Dreamcast controller but what if the controller itself feels like third party quality?

I am in agreement with >>3539729
and >>3539731 that adapters/converters are the best thing for the Dreamcast. Since Sega Saturn controllers are best for my hands as this thread already demonstrated. For fighting games, the Ascii Fighting Pad FT (seen on the lower center of >>3539092 pic) is nice as well and features the one thing I wished for on the default Sega Saturn controllers: equal sized XYZ buttons to ABC. There was the Sega Arcade stick which was released by Agetec in the US, but it requires some modding if you want actual arcade parts in it. I really want a Treamcast for its controllers, since they look like they would be good for me.
