I can't tell if I actually genuinely liked these games as a kid or if I was up to playing anything since I had already beat Parasite Eve, Medieval, Lunar II, Armored Core, Silent Hill, Ridge Racer 4, FF Tactics, etc. all five times over and would probably consider anything new a nice change of pace.

Army Men was one of the *best* shovelware franchises. I would say just every one of them was worth renting for a weekend of cheap laughs with a buddy.

They're not atrociously bad. They're atrociously mass-produced. 3DO churned them out ridiculously fast for a quick buck.

None of them are 'bad', but all of them are half-baked. Critics hated them largely because of the sheer quantity of them. For the most part they are straight 7/10 games, but reviewers tended to knock that down to 5 or 6 out of sheer annoyance with 3DO's business model.

I think sports games, shitty racing games and b-rated platformers are by far the most common offenders when it comes to bad shovelware (at least as far as retro is concerned).

It's called a hidden gem. Army Men was kind of a let down, and Sarges Heros was about the same in the start of the single player, but then dramatically got better with story and settings as it continued, something a lot of game reviewers wouldn't get to.

it had a bit of a learning curve, but the multiplayer on PS1 and N64 was a lot different then the shovelware of FPS games coming out set in WW2, this was the Toy Story game we all wanted to play.

This was a good game, with balanced gun mechanics for multiplayer.

Seriously, you could say it for LITERALLY 20 OTHER ARMY MEN GAMES

I will try: for many people around here, this was one of the first games they could play in an arcade.

And you could beat up other people in it.

And you could challenge your friend and beat him up in it....

Then Mortal Kombat came and everyone forgot this.

This one ended up being my favorite of the Army Men series
