Super Mario World for SNES would be my type.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but fuck it. I think most Mario games are bland and borderline boring. The only ones I like are Mario 2 US and Super Mario World 2... neither of which are *really* mario games. Oh and I like Super Mario RPG too... but again.. not really a Mario game...

And what qualifies as a Mario game? I mean... it's Mario.

Mario 2 for the Famicom Disk a best. Everything else is for casual plebians.

Mario games like your typical ones. Mario 1, 3, SMW, Mario land, etc. Regular red/green plumber action.

>> No.3534401

Mario 3, Mario RPG, and Mario Galaxy would probably be my top 3, though I like most of the platformers. I replay the 1st one a lot.

Super Mario Maker is a variable because it could be my favorite game one day, after a while sifting through the book mark website's traditional tag. Then the next day I'll find myself thinking the game is a mistake after another dozen unfinished garbage levels.

You suck at video games as a kid
in other news, water is wet.

I just watched my nephew get wrecked in the super casual New Mario games that just hand out lives as if they were candy. It's kind of a fact of life that kids suck at games. Only difference is they won't get any better since the Super Guide is there to beat the level for them.

>> No.3534470

>>3534432
I wouldn't say I sucked. I mean, I was beating games like Solstice and Castlevania III at the same time. I think it's more of a nostalgia thing. I also remembered Mario 3 as being a lot bigger than it really was.

>> No.3534474

>>3534470
ok, I guess I should have said "your skills weren't as sharp", also yeah, those levels are crazy shorter than they seemed at the time.

But to be fair, my playstyle playing Mario then was more of an explration and curiosity mindset, when now, it's a "Beat the level as quickly as I can" mindset.

>> No.3534483

I like all of them besides 2. Original SMB3 is my favorite.

Yea, but most of Mario games don't even qualify to this category. Mario 2 US does though. I'd say it's fine since Mario is a naturally diverse franchise after all.

>> No.3534507

>>3534486
Well I don't like 1, J-2, 3, SMW, or M64. Maybe that's a better way to put it. Like the Mario sports games and I like Mario Party along with the ones I mentioned earlier.

>> No.3534529

I understand. I'm more fond of SMB1-3 and SMW myself, but I enjoy other games like Mario Tennis or the puzzles Dr.Mario and maybe Yoshi's Cookie. I thought SMRPG was great too, even if I'm not much into RPGs. I dislike Party. I simply don't get the hype about doing a bunch of gimicky minigames over and over.

Still, each one to its own.

80% of levels are made completely trivial because of how broken the cape and Yoshi are and the gameplay has less variety and less secrets to find.

Having 2 end points to a level doesn't mean there's more stuff to find within the level itself. They somehow also managed to pull off having less exploration on the world map while including alternate routes because there is absolutely no interaction on the map whatsoever, compared to SMB3's which featured traps, roaming hammer bros., breakable obstacles, bonus games, etc.

Only real objective thing going for it is the levels but I feel you on this. I played the GBA aLttP first and perfer it over the original SNES version. I don't mind any of the advance games other than World

The first Super Mario Bros is far and away my favourite game. If you haven't done so, try 1CCing it without warps. It'll take a while, but one you do you'll feel like a master.

SMW, it's the one I end up replaying the most. Has the most satisfying gameplay, great non-linear world structure that lets you play the game in many different orders instead of arbitrary warps like in previous games.
I can understand people who prefer any of the other ones though. SMB1, 2 and 3 are all masterpieces, especially 3. In fact, SMB3 and SMW are tied for me.

I'm confused, is it one credit or one continue?

Either way, I don't use continues when playing SMB1, I either turn off the game after game over, or I finish the game in one sitting.

As the person who said "1 credit" I think I was probably wrong. It was just an educated guess.
