Just bought a NEC XM37 crt TV, any crucial info I should know?

Hooking it up to my SNES mini with RGB output (currently going to a 20" PVM). I have a multi out cable that the end is spliced out to BNC connectors, is that what the NEC uses?

Did you seriously pay the ~$2400 listing price he had for that thing, or did you at least haggle him down some because if not, god damn.

I don't know explicitly, but if NEC's monitors are like Mitsubishi's, you may need to get a sync stripper/rewire your cable to get CSync instead of CVid for sync.
As for the cabling actually required, yes, the XM37 has BNC connectors for one of it's RGB inputs.

Here's hoping it makes it to you in decent condition.

Yikes, almost makes me feel better about paying $300 for my near-new XP29.

I know my XP29 is a bit picky with sync on certain things. I don't think it liked sync on luma.

I was wondering if one of the 20 or so watchers would post here :)

He originally wasn't going to ship it, but I made him an offer and he accepted.

Several grand. Doesn't really mean much today because those prices were for when they were used for more than le retro game. The one I got off DFW craigslist a couple years ago was supposedly a spare or rarely used unit or something? Funny how prices have shifted so rapidly - I think I even talked the price down a bit to get to $300.

I did run a wire from Csync on some chip, I forget which but I went by the retrorgb guide. But for some reason at the end of my scart on pin 20, it has regular composite video, which my PVM accepted for sync. But as you say I must strip the sync. Not sure what went wrong in what I did, I'll have to tear open my SNES mini.

Yep I'm surprised people around here don't know. These monitors were business presentation monitors when they were in production. The XM/XP series are pretty rare these days. Most of them seemingly (correct me if I'm wrong) ended up in the hands of collectors who don't wish to give them up. As time goes on, the price will go up indefinitely. There's a website selling these monitors, they have every version but its between $5k and $20k

I hear you. I don't feel bad paying for the XP. I also bought an Olympus OEV203 (same as 20" PVM) for $250 shipped, and just bought a BVM for $400 shipped. Probably all set for acquisitions unless I see something incredible come along

Yeah, local CL sellers will practically pay you to haul away anything with a CRT in it and CL flippers that troll for stuff to eBay never bother with such a bulky hassle.

Also, Ikegami monitors are hugely underrated. Their build quality is impeccable (the fact that the bezel around the CRT is a solid metal casting speaks volumes) and the round CRT is more authentic gaming than a Trinitron.

>> No.3535792

$1500 + 900 shipping? Really? With a little bit of patience, you could find something like that on a local CL or such for next to nothing, as CRT=worthless scrap in the mind of the average burger (muh flatscreenz!).

This is something that's valuable to a small online community and worthless to everyone else.

Some people have more disposable income and just dont want to wait which is fine really. But let me tell you waiting pays off sometimes. In the past 6+ years browsing craigslist I have seen a few killer steals on crts. I got my xm29 from a guy at an AV company warehouse for $50. I have missed deals too. One time I saw an ad for another liquidating company that had a few BVMS for real cheap but I passed. However, finding deals is getting more uncommon now.

>> No.3536359

>>3536042
Good score, and mine was a mint high end Ikegami (this exact model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_4dugnqN1Q)) for a little over $100 shipped on eBay a few years ago. These are a real sleeper, and you could still probably get one for not much more than I paid even on eBay as all the hype is for Sonys and stuff like the NECs. Ikegamis are a bit rarer though, so it will take time.

Yeah, I don't think a lot of people do much research so decent pro CRTs that don't have the SONY name attached will go unnoticed until enough people lead the masses to stuff like Ikegami.
