I actually have a weird relationship with this game. I got it when I was a kid because it looked cool, and the whole time my older brothers were making fun of me for picking such a shitty game.

The game might not be too great, but I ended up forcing myself to love it just so I didn't have to admit that I picked a bad game.

I've played through this game probably twice now, and I don't regret it. At the same time, I don't really plan on playing it again.

Game needed more time in the oven. I feel like some aspects of the game were not designed well (magic being broken) just because the devs didn't properly balance it.

Here are my thoughts: >>3508609

To elaborate on why I don't like it, some of the magic is outright worthless. If it was balanced or all of the magic had a strength somewhere, it would be cool. But it's not. If you're a first time player, you might end up wasting time leveling up elementals that you don't even know are worthless.

The battle system is a bit fun (ignoring the unbalanced magic bit) and could have actually saved the game had they spent more time fleshing it out.

All the types of magic are good though what are you talking about?

You'll only see some of them suck if you level them all equally, if you pick one or two and stick with them they'll absolutely be strong enough to compete with any other element.

Water was disproportionately useful because it could heal and attack at the same time though.

SMRPG just has a different style to it. Legitimately foreboding or creepy at points. The Paper Mario series never ever has these moments and it feels like they were legitimately designed for children

Anyway, both are "designed for children" as in they don't have actual adult themes, but they aren't "for kids only" either, they're fun and have fun writing if you're not an edgelord who needs angst all the time, they have some funny humor I appreciated as an adult.
