And the level design, the level sizes, the music, and the fact that you can actually fight instead of being limited to hopping on enemies heads.

SNES version has more detailed backgrounds (but they are WAY smaller), and a more interesting Jafar fight.

Disagree, more platforming-focused level design is better than maze-like level design.

>music

I dunno, I really like the Capcom soundtrack too, but I'll give you the Virgin one is just as good, can't decide which one is better

About the fighting/hopping, well, Aladdin uses acrobatic moves to "fight" in the move, he doesn't use a sword to fight guards and stuff. And the sword isn't really useful, you're better off spamming apples on the Virgin game, they're more effective.
Also, the bouncing mechanics are more satisfying than the regular/so-so controls of the Virgin game.
Also, you can kick enemies on Capcom's game if you're swinging, also like Aladdin does in the movie.

Anyway, the difference isn't even that big. It'd say both games are pretty good. I had both as a kid and I stand by my opinion and arguments that Capcom made a better overall game, but Virgin also did a great job, especially in presentation.

Aladdin console war should be a bannable offense.

>> No.3497502

Someone posts about something actually interesting (the Aladdin prototype) alongside a flamewar bait. /vr responds almost solely to the flame war bait.

For as much as some people on here (and elsewhere, of course) get their panties in a wad over undumped prototypes, when an actually interesting one makes its way to the internet it sure seems hard to get people to care more about it than even petty game wars.

>> No.3497556

>>3497016
I would agree if the hit detection wasn't so bad. The sword constantly clips through enemies and rather than quickly vaulting over them, you have to waste time hitting them with your fucked up hitbox? And if the enemy also has a sword? Have fun mashing attack while watching the beautiful sprite work freak out in a hit detection mess. In theory, sword gameplay should make the game more interesting? In practice? Virgin half-assed gameplay like usual.

>> No.3497594

Once again, it's not the hitboxes, it's just that some enemies can deflect your attack due to parrying.

Then why am I, and others apparently, unaware that parrying is what's going on? The animation for it is terrible; the swords clip through each other. And even with that, it still doesn't make the game any fun or the hitboxes any less broken on normal enemies.

Anybody here actually bother to play the prototype?

Anything you think was better than the final game? I find it amusing that they removed the bra and swapped Genie's bimbo gag with a shooting Iago gag, but overall the prototype seems a bit frustrating. Regular guards take too long to kill, tons of apples to destroy the Cave statues, seems to be a bit too easy to fall and lose a lot of stage progress.

It is interesting to see the sword swallowing enemy, but I can see why he was... cut. I guess there aren't really many places that could make good use of his horizontal projectile so he kinda wound up as a less interesting knife juggler.

Dave Perry's games (Cool Spot, EWJ, MDK) all have pretty cool aesthetic ideas, animations and atittude, so to speak, but the actual game design is so-so, I never thought of any of his games as masterpieces, or polished in terms of design.
They're still serviceable games though, don't get me wrong, just not as polished as the kind of games japanese companies like Capcom or Konami made.
