FF6 (known to us as FF3 back then) had a lot of these. These are just the most widely-believed ones--there were much wilder and more clearly absurd ones as well.

Shadow's part of the ending changed if you saw all of his dreams.
You could revive General Leo and get him as a permanent party member.
You could uncurse the Cursed Ring as well as the Cursed Shield.
You could make Shadow throw the Atma Weapon (normally not usable with Throw) at the last boss and it would kill him in one hit.

Swapping the FF7 disc with a SaGa Frontier disc while on the world map will produce a glitched map that lets you walk through places you normally can't. I think there are a few other PS1 discs that work as well. You can use this to sequence break in various ways, including skipping the Temple of the Ancients and thus Aerith's death.

You need the Chocobo because getting into a fight with the disc swapped will crash the game.

That's pretty strange, kind of creepy honestly.

Hey, am I the only one who gets kind of creeped out reading about this stuff? I am not sure why it makes me uncomfortable.
Maybe it's because the programmers are doing shit normal people don't understand (like how the game is made) and they inject random things in there that you can't easily find. It's like they are taking advantage of people in way.

I was a huge Street Fighter 2 fan and loved playing it back in 1992.

I was fascinated with the strategy, combos, exploits, etc and built myself up to be one of the best players at the local pizza arcade

A friend of mine got this EGM back in those days and it said you could unlock Sheng Long (supposedly Ryu's master trainer) if you got to Bison without being touched then going 10 rounds without Bison touching you ending in Sheng Long coming out and throwing him out

the funniest part is I forgot to take into consideration that it was the april issue and actually set out on a mini-quest to do this

also mortal kombat was shrouded in rumors and mystery ever since it was found that you really could fight reptile in the first game

One MK2 rumor said you could go into the trees and fight the keibler elves (?)

I had a friend who became really acrimonious to me when I tried to tell him Sonic wasn't in Smash Bros. Melee, because the friend who had told him (some random guy I never met who went to another school, or something) was apparently extremely reputable. I tried to explain how obvious of an April Fools joke it was, how his friend was probably just mistaken, not lying, and I believe I even told him the magazine revealed the prank in the next issue. His reply was that the magazine was wrong, and his friend was right, because his friend wouldn't lie.

That guy was weird. He had a Gamecube but only like 1 or 2 other games besides Melee, but when I would ask him why he never wanted any other games he would become silent and pretend I wasn't there. In fact, he would sometimes do this to me for entire days with no warning (no fight the previous day or anything) but still speak to other people.

I tried replaying it with the tunic (though I didn't go for it until I reached the color dungeon, so I wouldn't be overpowered). As I said, I felt kinda bad. [ACTUAL SPOILERS] Everyone was counting on you to get rid of the monsters, but the monsters were actually sent out in response to you, like antibodies to a virus, by the bosses; they were only trying to protect the island and the people on it from you. Before you came along everything was just fine, but as soon as you got there the bosses reacted and gave the Wind Fish nightmares, which caused the owl to lead you to wake up the Wind Fish. for me and my friends everything weird that happen in san andreas were a glitch, and since we do all kind of strange stuff we just guessed that the game glitched, we never look it or searched but the most awesome thing that happened to ous was a plane crash that kill you out of nowhere.

>One MK2 rumor said you could go into the trees and fight the keibler elves

The one I heard was that the screaming trees would eat you with a stage fatality. But yes, many rumors for that stage and Reptile (such as his hidden 3rd fatality) and how you could play as mask-less Scorpion.

I remember a kid telling me that you could play as Luke in Shadows of the Empire, and ultimate lightsaber duel Vader and Xizor in the end.

My jimmies were really rustled.

The car spawned out there so the player could get around the woods faster, they intentionally put that in for that reason.

There were loads of rumours around where I lived that said you could make OoT characters like Saria, Malon, Zelda, etc. take off their clothes if you completed side quests for them

There was a time when this looked pretty legit, to me. Waluigi was a failed attempt at reviving the Luigi speculation.

One of my favorite creepypastas. I can still barely remember what the rumor that was spread around was about. Thinking about it, it was probably some store that sells Master Balls and Rare Candies.
