I got one last year. I did not have a Saturn growing up but really really really wanted one as a kid.

I would say if you can chip the console, it's worth the money. Collecting can be painful if you're just filling out a collection of worthwhile games. On the flip side, this system really does have a small english catalog for its time. If you can read moonrunes then you get a great console.

Get a Japanese saturn or American saturn with Action replay, and then start getting imports. A good amount of nice import games with minimal moon runes are out there for reasonable prices. Here's some good cheap import saturn games:

Virtua Fighter 2 - Great fighter, runs smooth as silk.

Sonic Jam - Japanese version going up in price, but it doesn't have much moon runes, and it's pretty fun.

Rockman 8 - A pretty good 2D game

Panzer Dragoon - A must play, it has moon runes for story, but easy to understand.

Do you have "sega_100a.bin" & "mpr-17933.bin" in the system folder?

The game files must also be:

>bin+cue files
>With US region (you can patch them with SRP3.0GE which is what I do)
>Have no weird characters/numbers of any kind (i.e. vampiresavior.bin/cue, not vampire_savior).

And don't forget to open up the cue file with notepad and change the name of the bin file it's suppose to read.

Mednafen Saturn plays games perfectly, no joke, but it's a picky bitch in terms of accepting the files. Try the darkwater releases in theisozone.com

ccd is literally the same as bincue, it just uses a different file to store the TOC instead of a cue sheet. You can even pair up a cue with the img file, since it is literally the same as the bin file in a bincue.

There are even multiple programs that can create ccd rips, so there is definitely nothing proprietary about it.

I just bought into the meme.

You need

- a saturn
- a saturn controller
- a saturn a/v cord
- an action replay (china clones work great) - #30-40
- 1 retail disk of your region
- a good quality CD-R
- the ability to burn .iso to cdr
- long philips #2 screwdriver

backups don't come as .iso, you have to be set up at least to play .bin and .cue

>> No.3494632

oh, and a saturn power cord.

It's the same one as the PS1, PS2, and the Dreamcast though. Just a simple AC cord.

>> No.3494641

>>3494625
>>3494632

You confirm that your Saturn plays retail disks. You confirm that your Action Replay will boot up when in the cart slot.

You burn "Pseudo Saturn Kai" to a CD-R. google it.

You open up your saturn with the screwdriver and tape up the "disk tray open" sensor.

You do the swap trick to boot "Pseudo Saturn Kai". Insert your Action Replay. Use the on-screen commands to install the firmware to it. There's instructions on the pseudo saturn kai site.

That's it, now you can burn games to disk. of course, you'll have a hard time if you're stallman like me because of all the nonfree software you need to use to burn common rips.

Yes. Minus the CD burning part, it only cost me 60 bucks to get everything I needed. The only downside is that my particular Saturn doesn't support the most current Pseudosaturn release, so I can't play Panzer Dragoon Zwei or Saga. That's not a bad trade.

subchannel is literally only useful for CD+G. And it is impossible to read them properly, so you can't make 1:1 copies of them.

And you can pair a bincue with a .sub file if the burning app can support it. I remember Blindwrite being able to rip and burn subcodes next to bincue.

Either way, subcodes are not proprietary either, and bincue sucks horribly. Doesn't even support multisession, and every app rips bincue completely differently.

>So the most economical way to get into saturn would just be going with Psuedo Saturn right?

No, it is in fact way down in the list:
- emulators (free)
- swap trick (requirement: 1 original game)
- modchip ($25 canadian dollars last time I checked)
- Pseudo Saturn (requirement: Action Replay + 1 original game to do swap trick to flash your Action Replay to Pseudo Saturn, AR costs $30-40 USD)
- getting an SD loader (between 130-200€, if available)
- getting originals (requires infinite money)

>>3494934
>he only downside is that my particular Saturn doesn't support the most current Pseudosaturn release,

I thought that that only depended on the type of cart you flash, and not on the type of the Saturn. What makes your particular Saturn not support the latest Pseudo?
