It's tedious and slow. It's not fun.

I don't hate Other M, but it isn't a very good game from an objective standpoint. It has some neat things like the dodge mechanics, but it sort of fails at everything it sets out to be. And from a fan's perspective, the art and design direction isn't good compared to Super Metroid or Prime 3.

Man, this game can be annoying to translate sometimes. It's got a few sections (Ace for example) that start off with Byte 22 (which is the opening quote), followed by just 2 bytes. You'd think after the opening quote, 15ish other bytes would follow representing the other characters but instead there were only 2 fucking bytes. 03 0D or something, and that pointed to a completely different address where the 15ish characters of text was contained. It's actually kind of interesting that they do that, and I'm glad I was able to tackle it down at least. I've already started translating River South (the next area).

To an extent.

The problem is many sprites are shared throughout stages. Mine is mapping each sprite with a different font of text.

It basically cuts work time of graphical hacking immensely and makes it easier to compare sprites from other games you may want to place in the game you're hacking.

DKC2 has some ingenious ones, specially now that we have a decent hacking tool for the game.

The Lost Levels is probably my favorite of them. The only problem is that while it starts out very easy, the difficulty builds up really fast and by the time you reach the last worlds, you'll be begging for mercy. If you prefer a fair challenge, play The Kremlin's Revenge instead.

The reason why so many older SMW hacks work only on ZSNES is not because they wanted to force people to use it, but because they couldn't figure out how to make custom music work on the real hardware/other emulators until pretty recently. Nowadays, SMW Central's staff will actually automatically reject the hack from appearing on the main page if it doesn't fully work on the real hardware and all the major SNES emulators regardless of its quality.

And even before ascending to true godhood he is nearly immune to bullets, heals drastically faster than it is possible to take damage from bullets, destroys/detonates all other enemy projectiles at their source even when it doesn't make sense, can pick up and throw solid blocks of metal as big as the mech, can run like 60mph and jump 2 storeys, and may cloak at will. So all SA-1 enhanced hacks are auto-rejected? Doubt it.

http://helmet.kafuka.org/accuracy/
> The echo effect of the SNES DSP works by writing previous results into RAM, in order to mix with them later. This addmusic tool did not know this, because the emulator did not do this. As a result, impossible values were used for echo buffer sizes, which on real hardware and accurate emulators, results in all of the APU's RAM (and thus, program code and samples), being overwritten—crashing the game.

fuck mario 64 hacks man, none of them whatsoever have art direction for shit.

excellent level design, yes, but like look at the font in star revenge 2, what the fuck is that font?

look at star revenge 7 or 7.5, what the fuck is that color composition, thanks i wanted to see straight shit brown. half the textures look like they were made on a fucking commodore 64.

i mean fucking star road is the worse offender though, the textures are mapped in a manner that causes horrible distortions, and the only levels that look any good are levels that borrow color composition from pre-existing levels in mario 64, which honestly id prefer to this"hurr durr i made my own texture" bullshit.
