What games deserve exactly the amount of acclaim they've received, /vr/?

You mean this massive downgrade from the previous game with brand new garbage contents, weaker OST and generic art direction?

Certainly not any second-party PSX game, everyone jacks off Crash and Spyro despite being very subpar with the former having momentumless physics and the latter having barren empty uninteresting level designs.

We aren't talking about Mario 64 nor Rare's 3D platformers here anon.

Why are N64 fanboys so butthurt over Crash/Spyro? It's like every time they're brought up we get someone going "UH UH! MARIO 64 IS BETTER! NEVAR FORGET!"

Just fuck off.

Because it's tempting to rub it in when you have delusional people like >>3479841
trying to imply Mario 64 had momentumless physics

>Mario 64 had momentumless physics
Its physics were half-assed in comparison to its predecessors though. Couple that with mostly equal half-assed level design and shit camera controls and you have a pile of fuck that got almost all of its acclaim because of being a Mario game. I love seeing Mario do some sweet moves outside the castle though.

>rub it in
Not sure if what you're saying really describes as that though.

I was surprised at how good the music in 1 is compared to 2 and 3. Seems like copeland was really influenced by prog. rock and got lazy after

1 and 2 are god tier for different reasons. IMO 2 focuses more on atmosphere and 1 is more melodic and has more rhythm. 3 sucks though...

Same as >>3478370 but worse.

Ripto's Rage is the fucktard version of the original Spyro, YotD is the fucktard version of RR.

>> No.3480863

OP here, I just picked a critically acclaimed PS1 game at random. I don't even like 3D platformers.

Nah, they're all decent entries with little elements that help improve on one another. If there's any entry that's a fucktarded version of anything, it's EtD.

>What games deserve exactly the amount of acclaim they've received, /vr/?

An impossible question to answer since different tastes mean not everyone will agree on what deserves acclaim. I recognize there are a lot of people out there who enjoyed the Spyro games, but the bits I played of them were extremely boring.

There is no objective truth as to whether the game is fun or boring, it's entirely subjective.

First game is exploration
Second game is a 3D action platformer
Third game is a minigame collection
Fourth games is a bastard child and was born out of sin.

I would argue that 1 has atmosphere as well. but in 2 you heard more different type of instruments that helped with the level. Like futuristic sounds in metropolis. 3 has more of that david bergeaud sound which if you compare to R&C is pretty similar. I like them for different reasons but 1 has to be the better ost. It reminds me more of Spyro as a video game, it sounds less video gamey and trying to slap random sound effects into a game if that makes sense. It's more consistent.

Pretty much any of the Looking Glass lineup games.

System Shock 1, Ultima Underworld, and Thief are all fantastic and deserve all the credit they get.
