Your opinion on Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari

It's a Saturn game that I'd play if it was in English.

We're on the verge of a timeline where PC-98 fan translations are becoming even more common than saturn ones

Never ever

Some people over on romhacking were looking into it in a thread maybe a few months ago. The kana and kanji are split or maybe one is compressed or encoded. There are several interested translators over there but it seems to be a rough spot on the technical end. From my personal experience it is a bit of a jerkop in yabause, which is the good emu for the sake of debugging.

Sorry but I'm not that much of a weeb. I prefer the dev team's earlier efforts more anyways, and those ARE fully translated.

With recent advances in Saturn emulation, and the revelation of that one guy breaking the Saturn's DRM and developing a USB port that plugs into the serial port, will there be finally be enough interest in the romhacking scene to translate the Saturn's Japan exclusive library? I know stuff like Shining Force 3 and Dragon Force 2 have patches, but shit like Wachenroder, Sakura Wars, Langrisser, and Black/Matrix are kinda left in the dark. I would absolutely love to play Wachenroder in English.

Happy I found this thread!

Wachenroder obviously has the text translation online, but I agree a patch would be absolutely killer. There are a lot of games that aren't entirely exclusive and also have psx ports, so I think a lot of the work would most likely start with games released on both psx and Saturn, it just really depends on what people actually choose to do with the new breakthrough in time. Ideally, we will see a few good tools and plugins spring up the year ("a few" is being a bit optimistic).

A lot of times though the games themselves will be organized and constructed in such an icky manner that any staple tools people use won't even work and you have to start from scratch and talk with other hackers and such to see how to reverse-engineer to get what you want. Text hangups can take a long time and some real digging to get past, if possible.

Wachenroder is only good for the OST, though. The gameplay is dreadful.

I don't think people are specifically looking for optimal gameplay all of the time when going into retro games like this, especially jrpgs. Obviously there are some good eggs, but even the bad eggs have serious worth because people just want to play these games for what they are.

This pretty much.
