Paper Mario of course. Bomberman hero would be another good one, it is like Mario 64 but a little easier. Bomberman 64 would be a good game for both of you. It's a platformer but it's a bit of a puzzle game too, there really isn't anything else like it.

Chameleon Twist is another easy platformer. Pretty short too, and it has a multiplayer mode if I remember right.
