I just want a console that has solid arcade ports (fighters, racing mostly), horror games and some light RPGs, maybe a decent platformer too.

Never owned a Dreamcast but is that the best choice for me?

>> No.3472118

ps1.

dreamcast versions of Capcom games were better though.

I don't know. you can't go wrong with a dreamcast though. it's just lacking in the rpg dept but does tick off your other boxes.

genesis got street fighter 2
dreamcast got soul calibur

That's literally every Sega console.

Check out the Master System and Saturn.

the genesis version of sf2 was WAY shittier than the snes version. the only thing genesis was better about was mortal kombat because of blood.

The World Warrior was better on SNES; but I thought The New Challengers was better on MD.
Anyway, check out the Yuu Yuu Hakusho game for a good MD-exclusive fighting game.

b-b-but snes had street fighter alpha 2 :)

i'll admit that street fighter 3, mvc2, third strike were best on dreamcast.

OP should definitely get a DC as long as, like Anon said, he's okay with it being really light on RPGs.

what is a good emulator for dreamcast? and where good i find a good tutorial for nulldc?

>> No.3477756

Don't use nullDC, use Demul, nullDC isn't updated anymore. Demul plays a lot of shit and also does Atomiswave, Hikaru, and Naomi arcade games.

demul lags and is a broken mess

My experience is that DC emulation still sucks donkey dick. At least Saturn has SSF and that promising FOSS one I can't remember the name of.

Dreamcast had pretty much arcade perfect ports. What are you talking about? It was essentially the Neo Geo of its era.

Buy a dreamcast they are dirt cheap.

If you are too poor to buy the games just burn them.

>> No.3482953

The best versions of fighters aside from the arcade is by far on the DC. There is no better port of Super Turbo. MvC2, Rival Schools, CvS2, 3S, and Vampire Savior all run great and very close to arcade on it. I can't speak to the quality of non-Capcom games on it though.

Dreamcast is pretty much the exact same hardware as the NAOMI boards, which is why the arcade ports are flawless.

You really can't go wrong with a Dreamcast, especially since you only need a blank CD-R and an .iso to get games for it.
