Are there any good RPGs with good stories and no combat?

I think that's called an adventure game.

I've heard Planescape can be played without combat, don't know though.

That is just called an adventure game or a quest.

If what you actually want is an adventure game with a generic top-down JRPG look...Ihatov Monogatari is one /vr/ example I can think of. Yume Nikki and To The Moon also, but those aren't retro.

Very nice post. Really appreciate the effort put behind this response, which has bettered this board in measurable ways. Thank you.

what the fuck is your problem mate?

anyways this is probably what you are looking for http://freebirdgames.com/to_the_moon/

I'm not sure if these are up your alley, but A Bird Story and To the Moon are absolutely phenomenal and single handedly changed my long-standing bias against RPG Maker games. Neither have battles.

Dating Sims normally don't have combat while keeping other RPG aspects. The main problem will probably be that they don't get translated so your only options will be True Love, Pia Carrot and Bloody Bride.

>> No.3462412

>>3462385
Inversely, Lisa: The Painful damaged my perception of them and I've been playing RPG maker games since early 2000, back when it was one of the most-discussed PC games on GameFAQs.

Consequences mean jack shit when you do thousands of damage and have more characters than Legion Saga.

>> No.3462732

Thanks guys, I'll check some of those out. I've always wanted to play some of thr classic RPGs (Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana etc.) but I really don't like turn based combat, grinding and random encounters so I was looking for something like that with no combat at all.

You can play Torment without combat but it'd be like doing a low level run in FFVIII where you run from everything.

The last boss can be convinced away, but it'd be more of a challenge run kind of thing to get to that point without any fighting.

Numenera on the other hand is giving me hope for a game that you can run through without any conflict without having to jump through hoops to do it.
