Seconding ET. It's less shit than many other games but considered by many who never played it to be the worst game evar.

>> No.3458858

I can't think of a single one. All the 2600 games worth playing are well-known.

Maybe Dragonfire, but that's an Imagic game, those aren't underrated.

>>3458348

ET mixed the tedious pixel-hunting of adventure games with the short and repetitive nature of arcade games. It was the worst of each genre, and it was hurt by the Atari only having one button.

>> No.3461250

>>3458930
I dunno, I feel like demon attack and Atlantis are the only imagic games anyone ever remembers/talks about. I'd argue dragonfire, laser gates and fathom and even cosmic ark are all very underrated.

My only complaint is that no one's modded it to the perfume department scene from that Spongebob episode.

I'd put Starpath's games into the "underrated" bin, but they're so expensive that it seems wrong to push them over the many $5 games on the system. As in, you're paying $75 more for a slightly prettier Frogger.

Enduro? It's the closest you can get to an "underrated Atari gem" made by Activision.

And Robot Tank, which is actually underrated because many consider Battlezone to be the superior 3D tank shooter.

I also quite liked Jawbreaker, but I'm not sure if it's underrated and I'm not sure if it's a gem. This is not a better game than Ms. Pac-Man, this is what you play when you're tired of Ms. Pac-Man.

>> No.3465628

Capture software lagged for a second. The game doesn't do that, I think all 2600 games are forced to run at 60fps anyways.

>>3465481

That's an even better answer.

>> No.3465691

That game looks intense.

>> No.3467008

Just play arcade games or their NES ports, they're better.

>> No.3467303

>>3467008
There are a very slim handful of games that were on both 2600 and NES, as well as a fair number of original 2600 games that didn't see arcade releases. The few NES Atari games are good but the 2600 has a charm all its own. It's not for everyone but if you can appreciate it, it's full of great stuff you won't find anywhere else.

Berzerk or Dragonfire, whichever is considered underrated more.

The road looks like it's just the 1-pixel "ball" sprite being copied and pasted. You can get away with that on the 2600 because there's no framebuffer, unlike the SNES.

>>3461250

Laser Gates is alright, but it's too slow-paced. It doesn't have any higher difficulty settings.

>> No.3469227

>>3469121
Yeah I like laser gates but caverns of mars on Atari 400 was a much better take on the same kinda concept I'd say

>> No.3469267

Some of the homebrew games might be good. Not sure if they're /vr/, though; on the one hand, post-1999 Dreamcast games. On the other hand, Retro City Rampage's NES port.

Turmoil. Best game on the 2600. Turn Tempest inside out, then crank that shit up to 11. Turmoil.

Homebrew is fine, the rule is concerned with whether the game is for a platform that existed prior to 2000
