I beat BoF I a few days ago and now i want to play the rest of the series in order.

I've seen a lot of people here mention that the original translation released in the US was terrible and that there is a fan retranslation and patched that is a million times better.

Where can i find this retranslation/patch? Is it really worth it?

A lot of old school localization teams lacked two key elements which drastically improved translations in later years:
1. Direct contact with developers DURING the development of a game
2. An English editor or editorial staff

Obviously, most companies didn't have the time, money, or corporate infrastructure for those things, so translations came out really shitty for the most part. I think Nintendo and Working Designs were among the very few companies that put lots of time and effort into their translations.

I guess you can download codes for emulator of your choice (upper right corner) or just copy values from page to emulator cheat window or something. Those are supposed to be codes for Breath of Fire II (USA), I have no idea if they will work for re-translation (prolly should of work). Take notice of RAW and GENIE. When you are entering some code into emulator, check what type that code is (RAW, GENIE, etc.) and set it so in an emulator.

I got about halfway in and totally lost interest. The shit isn't even a game, it's just a script that you press A through. No challenge, no gameplay, just moving through set pieces and a script. And the script is literally intended to be consumed by 8 year olds.

Description:
An "empty" (regarding game progress) save file is needed to skip CRC (integrity) check in any XP/zenny edit of the original re-translation ROM. It has zero game progress recorded on it. Use it every time you want to play the patched game from the beginning. If you already have a save file made on original re-translation ROM, you can use it with the edited version of ROM. For snes9x, copy "empty" save file and patched re-translation ROM to the emulator folder and make sure the copies have the same name. Extensions must be:
"srm" for the save file ("bof2.srm"),
"smc" for the ROM ("bof2.smc").

To make an "empty" save file yourself in snes9x, you need a clean re-translation ROM. Make sure there's no save file with the same name as re-translation ROM in the emulator folder, then run the ROM up until integrity check is complete. Copy or move newly-created save file (the one with the same name as the ROM + "srm": for "bof2.smc" ROM you get "bof2.srm", at example) to a safe location - you will need it many times.

While having a normal party like the one I've mentioned, you are finishing the game by the time Nina only starts paying for herself, with autobattle and instakill spells Nina has on like 50 used on random encounters. Not to mention losing crucial high Infinity exp will affect performance vs. bosses. If you go full madman and get Nina 3 speed items worth of thousands of zenny just to "speed" things up, it wouldn't be worth it, you'd be just a bit faster in random battles while underleveled and understocked. Not to mention Nina gets fusion in the very end of the game and in every other point of time is a baby in comparison to Bleu/Deis. Not to mention Bleu starts with Death, Might and Warp - game breaking shit. Not to mention she helps in leveling party up on secret island. Not to mention she synergises well with other party members - she has supportive spell Might that doubles the attack.
