3444223 No.3444223 [Reply] [Original]

Let's have a thread to talk about the GOAT video game series.

Been playing through this recently, fucking amazing. Easily one of the best in the series. It's hard to choose though because all of them are so damn good. For me it's between 1, VB, and 4

2/3 times a Wario Land game gets released it becomes the greatest game on the system.

>> No.3444242

Wario always seemed more fun than Mario. I only played one on the gameboy as a kid, but I remember liking it.

Are any of the ones on the virtual console worth grabbing?

>> No.3444247

>>3444242
Yeah, they're all great.
My favorite on the VC other than the first one would be 4 but 2 and 3 are also amazing. The general consensus on the internet seems to be that 3 is the best. 2 and 3 are pretty different from 1 and VB and 4 is like a combination of them.

>> No.3445089

Someone should really remake that Virtual Boy one. Whether it be Nintendo for the 3DS or by some random guy on the PC with VR headset support.

>tfw my virtual boy doesn't turn on

If I'm lucky it might just be the battery box (which actually has battery leak so it's probably fucked), and not the headset itself, but damn I miss playing this and Teleroboxer.

VB Wario Land is amazing.

Screenshots or emulation don't really make justice to the real deal.

If it's the colors that are the problem, pretty much every VB emulator can change the palette to black/white instead of black/red.

It's a real pussy solution but it works.

I'm not sure if it's AM2R that attracted people like you or if I just didn't notice them before. You just want a remake for the sake of a remake. What do you even want to change? If it's "the system" it's on then why do you need a fucking remake over 3DS VC or something? Who cares if "a wider audience" can play it? Think a little before you post.

I'm kind of sad NInty isn't doing anything with this series, but at the same time I'm glad they aren't milking the shit out of it.
Besides, the games we have are classics so we don't really need more.

Anyway, there is nothing to redpill about SML3. it's a fine game. It isn't that people overhype it, but some people seem to think less of it. This is a perfect game. This is the definitive platforming experience on the market right now. Not only is it perfect, but it built upon everything that made the previous game great, which is rare to see nowadays. Usually in sequels your character has to relearn everything... Not here.. Not Wario Land 3. When people think of "2D collectathons" this is the game that springs to mind. It has everything that makes 2D platformers fun. Large explorable open worlds. Moves and abilities to unlock. Various transformations to control. Fun boss battles. Addictive minigames. Time Attack. Replayability. It's here. It's engaging. It's amazing. It's a 12 hour + campaign length and up to 20+ if you want to 100% it. There is no other game, don't mention Super Mario Bros. with its shit controls and bland gameplay. Despite being parroted as the worse console ever by idiots like AVGN, this is the one time they couldn't be wrong even if they tried. It's really not. I mean, it's better than Master of Disguise and maybe Wario Land 1, but it pales in comparison to 3, 4 and Shake It.

Tedious instead of clever level designs, the bullshit waggle gimmick, having to farm money to unlock new areas, Subwarine... not to mention it copied too many ideas from WL4, while each Wario before it offered interesting, novel concepts. The only thing Shake It had going for it was some great 2D animation, but that's pretty much it.

Give me a real Land V over Shake It 2 any day.

>> No.3464362

>>3463796
I think if there is a Land V, it's going to be another 4 rehash. Nintendo is extremely hesitant nowadays to do anything completely new or different with established series.

Doesn't turn on? Or will not display?

Try to determine the issue. It is a very common problem in Virtual Boy systems for the adhesive that holds the eyepieces together to begin to lose integrity, resulting in one blank screen or both going out.

There is a method of putting your system in the oven to repair this. I'm not kidding, ask the Assemblers. But determine where the fault in your VB is. The fix could be pretty simple.

You can use mednafen to make the graphics non-stereoscopic and b&w, so that it looks like you're playing a GB game.

it just doesn't turn on. I'm pretty sure it's the battery box. I need to get an AC adapter for it, and use it with the snes AC cable.

WL3 is an acquired taste. You start out with most of your abilities unavailable, which means the start is pretty slow. However the day/night cycle, highly explorative level design, and Wario Golf all make for a fun time. Then there's the time attack mode where you have to collect all four notes in a stage with all your abilities already unlocked- that's even more fun than the main game in my opinion. Most people love it because it's the most "Metroidvania"-style Wario game.

Wario Land 3 is the most frustrating game where you can't die ever
