>Long Lost Game Boy Color RPG ‘Infinity’ Nears Official Release

>While the Game Boy Color may not have as many memorable titles as it's predecessor, a groundbreaking release for Nintendo’s vibrant portable is imminent. Affinix Software recently revealed that their missing in action RPG Infinity, which was originally due for release in 2001, is nearing completion.

>With the Game Boy Advance distracting publishers upon its arrival, Affinix Software unfortunately found themselves unable to secure a deal to put their game onto cartridge. Following this news the team behind the promising RPG disbanded, leaving just a trace of what could have been on their official website. As a result Infinity appeared to disappear to the depths of time, at least until now.

>BT's Long Lost Super Nintendo ‘Interactive TV’ Service Trial Cartridge Discovered

>lthough there seems to be little mention of BT’s involvement with Nintendo in the mid-nineties, it would appear the tele-communications company was trialling a United Kingdom equivalent of Japan’s Satellaview service. Despite little record of BT's testing, one retro gamer has uncovered the Super Nintendo cartridge which would have served a digital-download based service for the 16-bit system and is looking for answers.

>According to several sources online dug up by others researching the topic, BT trialled their interactive TV service to around 2,500 homes across two British towns around 1996. Using a mini-din port on the back of the accompanying cartridge, the console could connect up to a Voyager 2000 set-top box to provide a range of services. This would consist of various games, quizzes, advertising, and supposedly on-demand video content.

>While it’s yet to be known how this service worked, or how the Super Nintendo instructed the set-box to play chosen video clips, it’s rumoured that the idea was scrapped in favour of the Open TV platform instead. Although it’s a shame to hear of yet another ahead-of-its-time idea being lost to time, we’re once again amazed to see yet another piece of missing retro gaming history uncovered.

>Wow! It’s not every day you come across a programmer sharing all sorts of cool abandoned projects, but former Jun Amanai has been doing just that on his YouTube channel recently.

>The former Tengen coder has so far shown off five unreleased games – PC Engine conversions of Marble Madness, Off The Wall, Peter Pack Rat and Popils, and a Famicom conversion of Popils. The reasons for the lack of release vary. Popils for the PC Engine was developed with the goal of evaluating the hardware, while Off The Wall would have required a large 8 megabit ROM and a paddle controller.

>As well as these unreleased games, Amanai also worked on a number of games that made it to shop shelves. These include the Game Gear version of Popils (the only one that ever actually saw release), the PC Engine version of Klax, and the Mega Drive versions of Marble Madness and Grind Stormer.

>‘Cave Story’ Port In Development For Sega Mega Drive With Playable Demo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=401&v=XFkXv4_K2XA

>If you haven’t already experienced the masterpiece that is Cave Story, you really owe it to yourself to. Also known as Dōkutsu Monogatari, this 2004 indie release for Windows based PCs is a critically acclaimed hit which pulls in everything that made the likes of Castlevania, Metroid and Mega Man great. While it is already available on a wide range of platforms, one retro developer has taken it upon himself to port the game to the Sega Mega Drive.

>In what could be considered a demake, this 16-bit port of the retro-themed game doesn’t appear to discard anything from the original game. The iconic soundtrack remains intact although pumped through the Yamaha YM2612, whilst the game’s visuals currently look as crisp as they did upon release over a decade ago.

>As of speaking the Mega Drive port of Cave Story is limited to the first few areas of the game, however, nevertheless it’s an incredible feat seeing Studio Pixel’s creation on classic hardware. Whether or not this port sees completion is something we’ll have to keep an eye on. In the meantime those interested in sampling this new offering will be pleased to know that a playable demo is available - with any updates made being added to the downloadable releases.

>Put down your Sonic Boom Monopoly, pack away Street Fighter Monopoly and shelve Nintendo Monopoly – a new videogame-themed variant of the classic board game has arrived! Final Fantasy VII Monopoly features characters and locations from the 1997 RPG classic, including the likes of the protagonist Cloud, the villainous Sephiroth and body piercing enthusiast Aeris. (Too soon, Nick – Ed.)

>Instead of water works and hotels, you’ll be building Mako reactors and housing for the residents of Midgar, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Shinra was the devilish organisation behind all those parking fines and taxes. The game is available to preorder from Merchoid now at a price of £34.99.

Fuck that, why does everything have to go systematically contorted in the same bullshit way? They can even translate a few games into Gothic for all I care. NES games could actually be translated into Russian, with how big a thing Dendy was, and Master System and the Mega Drive games can be translated into Portuguese, and then retouched to Spanish. Or translate some into fucking Latin!

Translating through one language and then to another, especially a massively overused one like English, will just get you horrible garbled translation.

>And relevant news are deserving of a new thread anyway, don't blame the users

Okay, it gets its thread. Hits 300 posts fast because its big news. Anon stops by week later and the thread is archived and gone so he never even hears about it

>> No.3444781

>>3444750
Anon all I'm saying is that a thread like this doesn't work just because there is no content to be posted multiple times daily without having to artificially bump it.

I understand that it would be nice to have something like this regularly on the board, but really what can you do if there's no daily content to bump it with.

I follow a bunch of retro news sites on my RSS reader and most of the "news" are opinnion pieces or something that doesn't even qualify as retro for this board's standards. In fact whenever relevant news pop up I try to make a thread for it, and I can tell you it doesn't happen fast enough to be able to be able to bump this thread.

The dream is over indeed as you describe it but it's not the users fault, it's just the nature of the beast.

And besides, this is the driest time on the internet because everyone is out on their summer vacations, so you couldn't have picked a worst time. On top of how slowly it usually is, now it's even worse.
