The four characters were just to play modes with different designs. You miss literally nothing.

I agree with OP. SNES game is a downgraded port and now that anyone can emulate the arcade on a toaster there's no point in playing it. The Genesis game provides a different challenge and even if you play the Arcade version it's worth a go.

Only downside is it's a 2-player cab. Can't select Cormano or Bob, but those guys are easy mode anyway.

Sunset Riders is better at Arcade. SNES version is a dumbed down port of the arcade game and the MD version is a B-team work, in no way better than the original or the SNES game for that matter.
