Well, have you beaten it?

>> No.3427846

I beat the old testament version.

>> No.3427854

I dropped the Kyuuyaku version, too repetitive to me.

nearly done with 2 as well

Is that like a pro wrestler final boss? What the fuck.

Yes, SFC remake. Pretty good, i like that it's a game so simple that i can't play it while listening podcast. Sometimes i just want to fight monsters in dungeons without too much story or anything else that distracts me and this game is just ideal for that. SMT requires a lot more attention and i can't do it the same way. I really could appreciate more games like this, i tried Wizardry but it's not the same.

Also music is incredible, even better in MT2, and i really liked the monsters sprites.

Yes, the Old Testament version as well. I even went autistic on it and 100%'d it as best as I could (max levels, best demon fusions/recruits, etc). I liked Megaten 2 a lot more, but Megaten 1 was simple, pure fun.

It also gets really really hard. Even grinding and trying to keep everyone at their best, the rotting sea of flames still made me grow chest hair, for real.

No, but I remember watching the old animated movie of it and thinking that when the flesh bursts from the screens and squeezes people to death was the most violent fucking shit ever to exist.

Still kind of creeps me out, big fleshy blob wraps around you, squeezes you until every ounce of your body bursts and crushes under the pressure, same affect with The Blob to me.

I assume the anime and game was fairly similar enough, or the anime was similar to the manga.

I think it's gonna be on hiatus for a while.

He used to give very consistent updates at first, but then he simply admitted that he got bored and wanted to take a break. Which I think it's valid and is an honest approach; but we'll have to wait for now.

I think I beat Medusa in KMT and that's about it, I dropped it for some reason since the game suddenly got REALLY hard.

How far in was I?

Beat I and II on SFC, easily two of the best games I've ever played. The EverDrive N8 doesn't support save states on the Famicom version of I, and I haven't wanted to play it on an emulator. Will play MTII on my Fami when dmanufacture finishes, I have faith, he's the fucking man.

The anime is an adaptation of the light novel; the game is a sequel to the novel. Meaning that the anime shows the backstory and gives context for the game, the game barely touches upon its events.

I'd say you were maybe 25% in, and likely didn't even step into the longest, hardest area of the game (Sea of Flames).

>> No.3431004

Not like the NES version of MT1 was good, it didn't even have saving.

I unlocked the ability to fly Bien and not only did I not know where to go, but all my demons somehow became really useless.

How about using passwords like the developers intended?

>> No.3431010

>>3431004
Well, that explains it. Flying Bien lets you skip straight to the final area(s), and if you do that there's no way you or your demons can survive. You should only fly Bien to the immediate next area (you can check what that is on the "horizontal" map). It acts as a safe hub so it's useful to have it around when you're going through a new area.

>> No.3431014

>>3431010
They were mostly useless within Bien itself (which is weird because I was doing just fine prior to Medusa) and the city right under it, which I forget the name of.

I'll have to start a new playthrough some day.

It's a clunky, but I do really appreciate the art style of the original.
>>3431005
How about not pretending 40 character passwords are in any way 'ideal' from the developer's standpoint. You bet your ass it would have a save function if it had been feasible at the time. That shit was expensive in 1987. Note that every single MT game after it has saving, including the remake. It was an exclusion based on technological limitations, not a fucking artistic choice.

Valhalla... the thing with Megaten 1 (and 2 to an extent as well) is that you need to constantly upgrade your demons because each area amps up enemy levels a lot and you get easily outclassed. Recruiting becomes a pain later on as the final dungeons have very few recruitable demons, but on the other hand, Fusion is so simple in Megaten 1 that if you know what you're doing you can create the strongest demons available just from the beginning area ones.

>> No.3431034

What ending did you get in MT2?
I had the one where you ascend to heaven after beating Satan. I didn't realize there were alternative ones until later.
I also didn't realize that the hacker and the witch weren't supposed to be Nakajima and Yumiko.

>> No.3431046

>>3431034
I heard somewhere that they were planning to have Yumiko show up as an elderly woman in MT2, I don't know why that didn't happen.

Same, I just named them the same as MT1
I spoiled myself before finishing it (mostly because I got stuck a few times) but didn't kill Bael anyway so I think I'd have gotten the true ending regardless
