I never properly learned this game, but I racked up wins back in the day anyway, by picking Orchid and wiggling the stick left and right and mash on the buttons. Also, the skeleton dude's medium punch combos into itself I remember that much at least

I figured out why KI felt like shit until KI 2013: the lack of hit stop.

When you make contact with an enemy in a fighting game, there should be this moment where you can actually see the impact being made. KI didn't have that. Whenever you hit an enemy your animation just continued as if they were never there. They'd reel back, sure, but as a player there wasn't enough feedback to convey the attack connected.

KI 2013 added that and, thus, doesn't feel like garbo.

SNES version actually is more balance and less glitches, making it better from a gameplay standpoint. Which is why I thought it was shitty that Rare didn't include the SNES version of KI on Rare Replay. Just because they were too lazy to code a SNES emulator just for one game.

But yeah OP kind of fucked up, he could have said a SNES kiosk, I remember playing Killer Instinct SNES against other guys back then that way.

Your roms directory just needs kinst.zip and a directory called kinst, the kinst directory should contain the chd file.

I only discovered these games in recent years, I completely ignored it in the arcades because it's ugly as sin and the character designs are so generic. I mean, come on, ninja, dinosaur, robot, snowman, fireman, you can just smell the marketing team all over this. It wasn't until I went on my retro fighting games binge that I finally gave it a chance. I have to say, it had a lot of good ideas, I like the combo system, the particle effects, full motion video and polygonal backgrounds, shame it all got lost under this shitty art style.
