In the end, our hero realizes that chasing after the sword sucks for his friends and goes to make a history where none of that ever happened. Or something. I only paid attention because I assumed there would be an end screen... there wasn't. So here.

So Daikatana isn't necessarily horrible... it's just poorly made. There's some interesting things here that don't pan out, and the textures are just so dull and ugly. I could see why people would be pissed if they waited so long and were so hyped for this.

So now I'm done with my first full gauntlet. I'll go work on the medals and will probably make a user page on the Wiki to talk about shit. Assuming I have time, anyway.

That's the funny thing, actually. For a game that's supposed to make you Romero's bitch, it's really easy. The game drops new weapons every other minute, many of which take out enemies in three hits max.

I only died once in my run, and that's because you basically unequip your weapon while swimming, and I was in an area where three enemies shoot at you as soon as you pop out of the water.

I'd be surprised if it did make anyone his bitch.

Ah. You can run. Fun facts:

1.) If you walk to close to the edge, your character leans over and will fall if you wait too long (longer than 1 second)

340149

Well, I'm back. Here's where I lost last night.

For those who don't know, I'm playing Super Star Soldier, a schmup. I'm on the final level. Said final level is a boss rush. Level breakdown, combed from in-game knowledge and the instruction booklet I downloaded:

>Wave of enemies, several power-ups
>3 Consecutive bosses from older levels
>Another wave of enemies, lots more power-ups
>More bosses from older levels
>Maybe another wave of enemies (Unsure, never gotten this far)
>2 New bosses I've never faced

the advantage is that I've faced the bosses before, and they're exactly the same,so they're beatable. Even level' 4's boss which robed me of 5 lives the 1st time around (I'm slowly learning his complete pattern).

The problem is, if you don't have that ability to re-spawn from where you die, you go back to the start of the level, losing all progress. And that ability is somewhat rare unless you work for it, as it requires you to shoot at a certain type of power-up until it changes.

They make up for lack of predictability with sheer numbers of enemies. I got surrounded and hammered with no way to avoid death, so back to the start for me. Continues are infinite, so chances are I'll just throw myself t this for ages until I've got the stage memorized

Seems like it's impossible to dodge these guys. You can't move fast enough and there's not enough room to keep them off-screen.

For those wondering about the high life count, I'm going to start high and try to work down. Whichever the last one I beat the game with comes above when I stop or when time is up will be my limit and I'll respect anyone who can get past that.

So far, part from lots of deaths, I've managed to figure out the patterns pretty well. The boss from level 4 is a lot easier once you realise you can just run up the sidesof the screen to evade the missiles, although they have great ability to track you. Ended up losing my high-end Fire power-up here. Gotten to the second run of bosses, it's 3 previously faced ones, then straight to the new ones.

If it were unlimited continues, or it only sent you back to the start of the level, I'd say keep hammering at it until you finally cracked it. But it looks like a steaming pile of shit from the caps, so it's probably worse for you. And to start from the very start every time?

>> No.340732

>>340717

Yeah. There are just so many issues. Enemies have faster response times, longer ranges, and even the lowliest thugs take a lot of hits. Your best bet is to flying kick, except arbitrarily the game stops you from moving forward with the flying kick, which means you stop short.

This is ignoring that the game throws instant-death hazards at you. A lot of them. The best bet against these is to hit 100,000 points for an extra life, but there's no real way to get extra points from the enemies you kill, so you can't play particularly good and get more points.

Killed the boss, then this appears. Took my respawn and my power-up. Luckily his shooting pattern is indentical, so I managed to survive. Then the next part game. I don't have a cap of it, but it's identical to the ship from the 2nd and 3rd cap, except it's got a gun in the middle. It has 3 predictable shooting phases: spam the middle of the screen with long bullets (enough gaps between to avoid, or just fly to the sides), fire it's central gun (easier t avoid, it's one shot) and then fire a bunch of destroyable rings (which only seem to serve to stop you damaging it)

Once the gun goes down, it changes up a bit. phase 1 is nearly indentical, except it's near impossible to fly between the shots, so it takes longer to win. Stage 2 is replaced by the lighting you see in the 2nd pic. It aims at you and is hell fast. I only avoided it the first time because I was moving back into the center and got lucky. After that, the ship broke apart and it's just you and the brain.

And fucking hell it's tough. It's surrounded by a bunch of other brains you have to shoot through to kill it. Except they regenerate. Oh, and if you don't kill it before the outer brains regenerate, it splits into more brains. Which do exactly the same thing, just on a smaller scale. Except the brain spawning part. They do hat just fine.

I think I'm going to need something stronger than the Blue and Red Power Ups. Green has served me well, hopefully I can nab a few of those. Wish me luck

Okay Gauntleteers, I'm gonna give this another shot. I got up to Mega Drive last time and lost on James Pond 3 (that game has over 100 levels and only doles out passwords if you collect special items), but I'm going to give this another shot.

And this game is already kicking my ass.

Luckily on my second play I managed to find a secret exit that lets me skip a few levels. Hopefully I'll come across a few more of them...

It just annoys me how quickly the enemies spawn. I feel like I just have to ram my way through them since there doesn't seem to be any other way to get past.

First three levels were alright. Now on level 4 the game is getting really aggravating.

These natives are annoying sons of bitches. They're supposed to fight with their spears, but actually, they just jump inside of you, causing damage. Attack all you want, you cannot hit them while they are in you. And of course, that stuns you so you get locked in place, and they're generally with friends who also want inside of you.

Game over'd on the first level (shut up, I never played this game before and I'm still getting used to it), so I changed my character from the male character to the female character. I'm done. I'm done. I'm too casual for this game.

Worlds 1-3 were a bit tricky, but doable overall. Unless there's some big trick I'm missing, or there was a way to get more boxes, beating World 4 is not feasible.

The rules say "without assistance", so I can't look up the answer (nor can you guys help me). I gave this one a serious effort. I'm going to start over with a new NES game tomorrow.

So...I was working on a TG16 game called Somer Assault last night, and I finally managed to complete it. I mentioned in the last thread that I receive 30 lives and wondered why there were so many. Well...there was a boss rush. That, and trying to get used to the final boss took away all of my lives. It took me quite a few tries to defeated all the phases of the finale with only a few lives, but I did it (you thankfully don't have to do the whole rush over again, just the last boss). Usually, I'd have a montage at this point, but honestly, I really don't care enough for this game. Such a great concept, but such awful execution.

So, anyway, onto the DOS game:
>La Aventura Espacial
A foreign title like this doesn't necessarily mean a foreign game...but it does here. A Spanish adventure game, I just wouldn't be able to play it because there's too much text and adventure games are usually already hard enough in English.

> Corncob Deluxe
Ok, this is playable, but it's a flight simulator. There's no real goal to it. There are missions, but no structure to them, and trying them out it's just no fun. I really had a hard time deciding to skip this, but what I rolled next convinced me otherwise:

> Your game is "Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday"! Now go play it

Now THAT sounds like something that goes well in my gauntlet. Haven't had an RPG yet, and it's apparently not a bad one despite a license on it. Cool.

Lord this Pirates of Dark Water game is awful. There is so much bullshit but here are three (in just one level) situations that pissed me off.

First: I have to climb up that ladder. But on the ledge above are two enemies, and they will stand around there because they know I'm coming. I have to climb or jump up, and either way will get my hurt. Sword slashing in the air won't help, because my body will touch them before their bodies touch my sword.

Second: I had no clue where to go. Upon jumping in the water, which hurts you and warps you back, I discover there is another ship to the right. I can get there by climbing the mast of THIS ship and leaping over. The only way to know this is to hurt yourself by jumping in the water.

Third: Left is a dead end. Whether I go up or down, I will take damage.

There are numerous other things, like how enemies will appear on the screen and damage you before you can even react. Or how once they get inside of you, you're doomed to take lots of damage. Or how sometimes your sword goes through the enemy and does nothing.

No, you toughen through that shit. I had to do it on a gauntlet run I ended up restarting, it's honestly not too hard. Just make sure to have at least one ring on you at all times... it sounds obvious, but the sudden enemies popping up are the worst thing in that level.

It also helps that Wing Fortress has a way to farm for lives, so you can risk a little here and there.

this game is so cruel. I'm trying to escape this rising water, if you touch it at all you die. meanwhile there are perfectly placed enemies everywhere for you to run into while jetpacking.

then I found this big button that looked like it would save me, which was hard to get to, but all it did was warp me to a room that was already almost filled, so I died instantly. then I respawned in that room, over and over again, watching my precious lives slip away one by one.

now I have to do it all again. the future is a terrible terrible place.

I didn't deserve this, I don't know how it happened. Was only the third time seeing the boss. Take a look at the previous screen shot, those lasers at the top and bottom kill you. Your boss is the platforms you are standing on. You constantly have to jump from the top to the bottom, pretty much every 3 seconds. Once there is only one left, you have to jump off of it, get under (or over) it before you fall and flip gravity, over and over.

I focused on staying alive and just held down the shoot button, and somehow ended up winning. I'm gonna go have a heart attack.

I know I said I didn't think The Long Ranger would be a masterpiece, but it's surprisingly!
The mix between top-down shooter, FPS and 2D action game is great, and keeps the game from getting stale.

I've just finished killing an imposter dressed as me, and wow, that rush I got when I only had one life left, and just shot guy after guy...It was like I had become the goddamned Lone Ranger.
