There's a pair of guys around here that hate Treasure with all their might, mostly due to /stg/ shitposting and contrarianism, I guess.

But yeah I agree, Treasure were based. Later non-retro stuff by them like Omega Factor and S&P2 is also outstanding. Too bad they haven't done anything new for a while, but I have hopes they will do a come back one day and make Alien Soldier 2

The only Treasure game I've played is Gunstar Heroes and I loved it. I should play their other games.

The game's really not that hard once you get the boss's patterns and weaknesses down. I started with the slower PAL version though and I've only ever played it on arcade stick.

I'd say their platformers and run 'n gun shooters are pretty masterful.

Their platformers are alright, but not on par with Castlevanias, Shinobis, Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Spirit etc.
Gunstar Heroes is pretty solid, but for some reason it's not as as tight as Contras, Sunset Riders or Metal Slugs. I think it's the life meter, dodging is big part of the fun in the genre, so having a life bar trivilize that aspect and isn't as satsfying.
Alien Soldier is pretty unique so i'll give you that, although not a big fan of the controls.

Uhhhh cabal shooters are not on rails. Panzer Dragoon is a rail shooter clearly but the other noteworthy games listed by the other anon are commonly called cabal shooters, something completely different You don't know what you're talking about. Go play Wild Guns.

Educate yourself, Cabal shooters are a thing since... Cabal, it's a very especific term for those old-school games where you are on foot in front of the enemies (often in a single screen, thus no rail) shooting, moving and jumping to dodge. Rail shooters is a term mostly for lightgun games like House of the Dead or Virtua Cop where you only have to aim, not dodge. Panzer Dragoon and Star Fox are kinda a middle term but they fit more on "rail shooters" than "cabal shooters".

Even back in the day you can see the diference between Operation Wolf and Cabal.
