Maybe you just need to research a bit better. Don't pay attention to IGN's "best N64 games" lists, it's all 1st party always.

If you want to find the good 3rd party stuff, you got to do your own work.
Hint: as per with Saturn, a lot of good shit never left Japan.

Shitposting and console wars aside, I really do think Alien Soldier and Sin and Punishment are the best Treasure games. I know a lot of tryhards like to claim Treasure's games are "gimmicky", but what about S&P is "gimmicky"? It's a fucking solid game from beginning to end, and it's pure gameplay, no gimmicks.
I guess about Alien Soldier some might say "it's gimmicky because boss rush", but fuck you, boss rushes are amazing and pure gameplay, too.

Anyway, it's really sad to see /vr/ die like this, shitting on a developer who was all about celebrating gameplay over anything else.

It's PS, not PSX nor PS1.

PSX is what journos called it, unofficially. And PS1 is how most people started calling it when PS2 rolled around.

But the official one is PS, always has been.
Look for PureSutee games on Y!J or mbok and you'll see they use the tag PS, just like how SS stands for Sega Saturn, and SFC for Super Famicom.

At least not by Sony themselves as far as I recall, it was always just PlayStation and they refer to the logo as the "PS logo".

Jet Force Gemini?
The developers said that their main inspiration were old arcade shooters, like Space Invaders. Which is noticeable with the flying enemies that make formations and you have to carefully aim and take down.
They never mentioned Doom, but yeah I guess I can see the resemblance, except JFG is 3rd person and aiming is actually possible, although it has auto-aim, it's just better to press R and aim manually, depending on the situation.

The main complain about JFG is the tribal collectan and the fact you need to find all the tribals (and ship parts) in order to fight the final boss and beat the game. It's a legit complaint, but that didn't stop me from throughly enjoying the game. And I've replayed it several times. Also, the multiplayer was fun as fuck, both the co-op and VS modes.

Here's the video I was talking about, from Rare Replay

that there is a slot in the front that contains a small cart if its a red colored with holes on the top then it has the expansion pak which saposly makes the system run games better and a few games require it to play at all. make sure the joysticks on the controller arn't too loose they are sapose to be stiff. you can get a replacement part fairly cheap online some where research it a bit. some games will require a memory card but N64 memory cards are very bad at keeping the memory saved. not sure if its a brand thing or what but I've had three different memory cards and they all after some time couldn't keep the data saved on them after turning the system off. and watch gameplay videos of the games talked about here to see if they interest you or not. have fun.

Tribal collecthan isn't even that bad, especially since when you go back, you're equipped with the jetpack, so replaying old levels isn't the exact same as before.
For me, the real drag was finding the spaceship parts, but even then I still enjoyed the game.

And yeah, dat OST.

Not him, but the game is really easy especially if you use autoaim.

>> No.3367619

>>3367568

Auto aim? it isn't all that helpful, and the shots are weaker while you're using it. It only works when you're dealing with an enemy (usually bosses or mid-bosses) where you need to focus more on dodging attacks rather than shooting, but for most of the game it's better to use manual aiming.

I wouldn't call it an easy game. Most people who play it for the first time don't even know you can deflect projectiles, and as a whole, the controls take some time until they click with you, similar to Alien Soldier.

Maybe it depends on the player, I found both of them to be around par in terms of difficulty and learning.

I actually also feel like I had to learn the whole game (S&P) inside out and practice for each boss while replaying individual levels, and it was hard as fuck to beat it on hard + turbo speed + frameskip, that shit was one of the most insane experiences I've had on a video game.

Gauntlet Legends, allegedly due to some custom chips on the cartridge.

Anyone here used emulators in the early 2000s? In the early/mid 2000s (probably 2002-2004) there was a kid playing N64 games on an emulator while the rest of us were still only on consoles and he was talking about how some games were impossible to play. One that I specifically remember was GoldenEye, and if I recall correctly it was due to it running too slow. When I tried it myself for the first time on Project 64 1.x 1-2 years later it was however working fine, maybe some gfx glitches but definitely playable. Was the guy bullshitting? Don't want to lose more sleep over this kid's claim.
