>game more or less is a never-ending fetch-quest
>game has both random encounters and high encounter rate
>game often forces you to use characters you haven't been using who will be dead-weight when you are forced to use them
>game has a terribad translation that manages to have "yes" and "no" mixed up and give very vague idea of what you are supposed to do next at best (yes, I'm aware of the re-translation but it sure as hell didn't exist in mid 90's)
>game also has secrets that I'm convinced are impossible to figure out on your own like finding the earth shaman or the requirement of the best ending (again mid-90's with no internets)
>etc...

Breath of Fire II basically has every single thing that I hate about JRPGs in it yet it manages to be one of my all-time favorites. Do you guys have games that you like despite it having many feature/tropes/thing you hate?

>> No.3364701

As much as I love Legend of Dragoon, I'll admit that it's a pile of fuck when it comes down to long-ass battles for next to no reason and text (which isn't helped by a not good translation)

Many of your meme arrows don't work anymore, as there are emulators with fast-forward and virtual machines, fan patches and romhacks, and millions of multimedia guides. We live in a better time unless are you are that puritan autist who keeps playing on 999,99$ -used- original hardware with original version.

Only dumb people tend to make things less enjoyable for themselves (like you who bitch, bitch and bitch instead of modicum of searching). Notice that in my webm Katt is named "Katt". Again, capable people make things far more enjoyable for themselves.

How many of these do you think existed 20 years ago when I first got the game? I guess I was a fucking retard for making things less enjoyable for myself back then...

>you are that puritan autist who keeps playing on 999,99$ -used- original hardware with original version.
How would YOU have played the game in 1996?

Apart from that I agree about what you said about we living in better times now and I have been using fast-forwarding emulators when replaying old RPGs for more than a decade now.

Also I like how dumb people like you not only completely manage to miss the point of the thread but also assume things like me being puritan autist purposely paying shitloads of money for being able to play the game in the most inconvenient way to get the "authentic experience" or me not being aware of the re-translation and guides when I purposely went out of my way to mention the former and not being able to access the latter back in the day.

I am not missing anything here: you are -purposely- trying to make a circlejerk about how your precious old days are gone, how they could be better if X or Y happened, how you are burnt and jaded, etc. As of 2016, the game has a modicum of flaws that can't be fixed, the only reason to stir the past up is to cry and hope to find peers, thus vent off your not-so-splendid current life or a bitching nature.

>I have been using fast-forwarding emulators when replaying old RPGs for more than a decade now
Which proves my point that there are no problems you are experiencing with the game nowadays and that the reason you came here is to bitch about days long gone.

Nightshade definitely qualifies for this, it's basically a point and click adventure game that you must play with a NES controller which obviously isn't the best tool for the job. Not only you must use the d-pad to move the cursor around at very slow pace all the commands to interact with thing are behind a very cumbersome menu system which is a pain to use especially when you want to use items in your invertory. Game also features one on one fighting parts which also aren't that great, if you have played games like Urban Champion and Karateka you have a good idea what they are like.

I honestly think that Nightshade should have been released as an early SNES game instead of being a late NES game that everyone overlooked, the concept of the game is brilliant and I'm sure the extra vuttons in SNES controller could have been used to make the game's interface work much better.

>talking about the game as originally designed and experienced
>construing this as somehow ignoring the present

by your logic, no one should exchange opinions or memories about anything if there is a current "fix." oops, i can't criticize this old movie because i can just fast forward through the bad parts. ironically, sounds like you're just a bitter old sack of salt who loves to complain and sees everyone else as doing so: in this case having a completely normal conversation about /retro/ video games and not emulation or "fixes" TO them. or construing the first discussion as evidence that one is a purist against the latter. "no this book is great once you rip out all the bad pages, why are you complaining." the more i think about the implications of your absurd premise, the more absurd it becomes.

I feel pretty much the exact same way you do about Breath of Fire II although I didn't really mind the high encounter rate that much. It does have the best Nina in the series though so maybe that is why I like it so much.

Here you go friend. I'm the 10th poster and am fresh to this thread. You're a twat and you've derailed what could've been a very fun thread where we taking loving jabs at games we care about. I guess you either missed where the OP said BoF2 was one of his all time favorites, or some Katt-waifu retardation just triggered you at the criticism of the game... but either way.

Half this thread is you throwing around wild insults and just jaw-droppingly stupid accusations. You are the cancer that is why this board broke from /v/ in the first place. Good job.

You haven't changed even a slightest, you pus of a man. I really wish to know how a sack of rotten materia like this might look IRL. I am from Ukraine btw. Care to let me take a glimpse of you? Because I really am tired of breathing the same air as you.
