Is it?
The only real challenge is Quick Game.
Full game is piss easy.
While you control what your colony is doing on yard square currently selected, computer automatically handles colonies (both red and black) on the rest of the squares.
And he does fucking amazing job.
Ant population is through the roof, they colonize other squares(slowly, but still!) and get rid of enemy colonies on the same square.

My strategy for full game?
>dig a tiny nest and start breeding

>make a scent path to the food and back

>control the queen to maximize egg output

>set 30/70 forage/nurse and 40/60 workers/breeders, no dig or soldiers

>wait for a bit while pumping out dozens of eggs

>mate and colonize yard to the north, where second red nest pops out when you destroy the first one.

>mate&colonize, mate&colonize, mate&colonize

>colonize manually, its quicker than auto

>let computer handle running colonies while you focus on the colonizing

>if you control colony on the square that houses both red and black, reds will outpace you. If you let computer handle square with both red and black, black will eventually murder reds.

It reliably lets you win Full Game. If you're quick, reds wont even have a chance of setting additional colonies beside original and second up north.

Now, Quick game might be a bit more difficult, I need to check it out first tho.

SimEarth was boring....

>> No.3356410

>>3356339
Quick game is more difficult than Full game, given that you cant simply let computer handle your colonies, because you don't have multiple, just one and you can't get more.

I still won and quite easy.

>dig a tunnel in the square shape for queen to lay eggs in, a shaft with multiple layers for nurser ants to relocate eggs/pupae to and food chamber near the top.

>set 70/30 forage/nurse and 65/35 worker/soldier, No dig because we already dug all we need and no breeders because QuickGame prevents you from mating and setting colonies - breeders would only waste food.

>control queen. Lay an egg and move a bit, lay and move, do so until you have about 40 population, eat when you need.

>control soldier, recruit a handfull of ants and move to the red nest while avoiding their main routes.

>murder everything until there is only queen left.

>eat some of their stored food to recharge your health full and then attack queen.

>you may need few tries to kill her, but dont worry, red forces should be decimated by now, so just move in and kill her.

>that was easy.

SimTower got me into PC gaming. After playing the Mac version at school I got my parents to buy the 6-in-1 Sim pack at Office Depot.

The level of complexity varied hugely between those games; I noticed my younger sister was way into SimTown and SimAnt, while I mostly stuck to SimTower and SimCity. Didn't get into SimIsle until a few years later, but that was a fun game when it wasn't being a buggy piece of shit.

Anyone remember SimCopter? I liked it but in retrospect it seems like it needed more depth. After a while the only draw was as a 3D tour of your SimCity 2000 cities.

They were pretty crude, but it was a 3D game made for people without 3D accelerators. Streets of Simcity looked a lot better, especially on a 3dfx card, even though I think it was just the same SimCopter models with better textures.

I don't think it was that intentional, aside from SimTown explicitly being a dumbed down SimCity for kids. SimTower and SimIsle weren't even made by Maxis, they were third-party games that just happened to fit the "system simulation" idea well enough to slap the Sim brand on them.

>I don't think it was that intentional
>games that just happened to fit the "system simulation" idea well enough to slap the Sim brand on them
THAT was the intention. Not doing everything inhouse, but bringing a common theme (sims in this case) to the people under a common label. You knew with a Sim Anything game you were up for an interesting, enjoyable and varied experience

Man, all I ever did was just call as many ants as I could with me to the food and released them. Then when my colony was up and running, call as many ants as I could and kill the red scum. First priority was digging every single top segment so they had tons of exits they couldn't guard. Next priority, digging to the point where rain could ruin them if my plan failed. Finally, just overwhelm them with numbers.

Never controlled the queen. Never played as a worker. Never worked on strategy.

I didn't have to suffer this one, so I'm indifferent.
Got to know, before I started SimCopter, I had a beautiful city or two. I loved the arcologies. Their design, in its variety, was gorgeous. When I then saw these arcologies in SimCopter it was ... an odd mix between infuriated and terribly upset. They looked awful. Very crude models, highly repetitive textures that didn't resemble the buildings at all. It was insulting. I kept playing SimCopter for a while, because the game itself is solid, but these visuals were like an attack on SimCity 2000
