Japanese games thread anyone?

Pic related, it's one of a few packages I mailed to myself a few months ago right before I stopped living on Japan. I collected a lot over those 4 years, so if anyone has any questions about that I'm around to answer.

Out of this pile? Its tough. Robocco Wars is awesome, at least I really like it.

Evangelion is a guilty pleasure, but I think its a fairly solid title.

Goemon 2 is great and obviously is Super Metroid (I bought them because I the English versions are too expensive). I also have Harvest Moon for the Super Fami.

Its hard to pick just one, so I'd say its a tie between the Goemon 2 and Robocco Wars.

neat. i've been wanting a famicom with disk system and mario 2 just so i can say i have beaten every mario game. i may be missing a couple of the super super obscure ones but mario 2 on disc system is a bucket list game.

I have a huge stack of JPN Saturn games. I might have some doubles if you're interested.

I can go upstairs and take a picture of them if you'd like to see. I have a nice collection as I like Saturn as well.

Disk system is cool. I saw a few of them there, but they were always a little to pricey and in suspect condition. Any Disk System in good condition is gonna be marked up like crazy unless you get lucky.

I game hunted like crazy in Japan over those 4 years and found some really neat stuff for ridiculously low prices.

so i love me some game center cx. im sure you know of it if you are both a retro gamer and interested or involved with japan. he seems to go to a million arcades in that series and in every thing i've seen of stereo typical japan there are usually aarcades everywhere. is this accurate to real life at all? just something i've always been surious about. seems like it would be pretty rad to live around several little arcade places.

I'd like to see your saturn games, and even any recommendations you have for import games, if it's not too much trouble. I've got a small list of games to get (mostly shmups right now) that I'd like to add to.

>> No.3357897

>>3357874
Okay nice I can answer this. Basically yeah. I think Game Center CX is filmed in a fairly big city so usually there are a lot of game centers.

I was living in a semi big city in Northern Japan and there was a few options I had, but nothing like Tokyo. My wife lived in the middle of nowhere so there was not much around there, but I did go to a Mom and Pop type secondhand shop occasionally and find something good. In terms of arcades in the countryside? Not really.

In terms of imports for the Saturn I recommend:

Puyo Puyo RPG is cool but maybe difficult to play.

Last Bronx (really cool fighting game)

Saturn Bomberman is the one that supports 10 player games if you have the multitaps or whatever for it.

Saturn Bomberman FIGHT!! is also cool.

The three gundam games you see here >>3357914 at the bottom left are cool.,

The Sakura Taisen games if you can read Japanese or have a translation you don't mind using.

Fighters MEGAMIX is cool and I'm not totally sure it got an NA release, please correct me if I'm wrong.

There are others, but these are some that just stand out to me as both good games and cool collector's pieces.

Thanks. Nice collection!
I'll look into Puyo Puyo, it does seem cool.
I definitely want to eventually get enough controllers + multitaps for a 10 man bomberman game.
I've got both of the Sakura Taisen games on order already.
I had thought that the 3 gundam side story games were just Story CDs that complimented the show, but looking into them now they look really fun. I'll pick them up soon.
Fighters Megamix DID get a NA release, but it's cheaper to import it.
Thanks again!

I haven't ever been to Japan, so this is just hearsay on my part, but I've heard that Japanese would rather you play up the American stereotype than you try to speak Japanese and otherwise culturaly integrate.

Kind of a "Do it perfect or don't do it at all type" situation

>> No.3361447

>>3361241
It depends on the games. A lot of my Famicom games I didn't spend more than 5 dollars on and I have about 20 or so. 30 games for 40 dollars isn't all that bad though.

I need a system that runs famicom. I was thinking of getting one of those multikart consoles to run my Famicom and SuperFami games (I did the SNES tab thing because I have two SNES'). Are there any you recommend for Fami and SuperFami?

I wish I bought a SuperFami in Japan. I had a Famicom but unfortunately I left it at my in-laws house and won't be able to get it for awhile.

It's easy to speak but ridiculously difficult to learn how to read. The first two alphabets are easy (and tend to be the only ones used in famicom games and earlier) but learning the 3rd alphabet which is actually Chinese is quite difficult.

I don't think Kanji itself are that difficult, there's just a lot of them but in themselves they help with all the homophones and overall vocabulary and give structure to a sentence.
I find games without Kanji the hardest to read because you're confronted with walls of kana and need to guess which parts should be kanji.

If you have an address to ship to, Amazon. Otherwise, look for Book Off/Hard Off stores (usually not much worthwhile there, but sometimes you get lucky, and everything is really cheap), and A-Too (エーツー) stores. That's where I've had the best luck.

Anything in downtown Tokyo will probably be pretty picked over and/or overpriced, so if you can, look around in other cities and suburbs.
